Thus it is. Thus, for the moment, it is said that only for their own characteristics, it is closely established as the generality of other categories. In one aspect, when a discriminating mind with a single aspect arises relying on the objects that have become the cause of appearing as a single aspect of nature, this single aspect affixes an imputation to the objects, and that which becomes a part of the application of words to the aspect of the mind is the generality itself. That itself is shown by "other" and so on. The so-called relying on the various objects is that relying on the different individual characteristics, a mind arises that appears as one meaning. By what? By its own essence. By its own appearance, it obscures and obstructs the essence of others, the different individual characteristics. That, that is, by mind. With what kind of distinction? By conventional truth, that is, because it obscures its own characteristics. Although by nature they are different, they obscure the differences and cover the differences themselves, and are nominally established as the opposite of different kinds of entities, only by the nature of being a cow, and so on. It appears as if it is not different and mixed. In that mind, by the power of thought, by the power of imputing a single aspect, it is proclaimed that generality exists. It is said that generality is only the aspect imputed by the mind, which is the concluding statement. How does that mind impute and impute, so is the generality. That does not exist in the ultimate sense. It is explained by "having discrimination" and so on. The so-called having discrimination is connected with this word mind. For those who have similar kinds, those who are different from them, those who are the opposite of them, those who exist, those are the ones who are the opposite of those others, which is the summary of those who are the opposite of different kinds. Ninth fascicle. The nature of one's own habit is the self-nature of the habit of discrimination, that is, the ability to generate non-different knowledge even from different things. To follow it is to conform, that is, if a single aspect arises even in different things, then it has conformed to its own cause. Those, that is, of the objects. To be attached to, that is, this is only of the objects.

It is said that "the essence is one," which is a fabrication about things. It universally shows that those things are mixed and appear to be undifferentiated, expressing it as "showing the essence is one." Furthermore, why does that mind fabricate its own essence onto other things? Therefore, it is said, "what is to be established," and so on. For which things are there similar things to be established and things that can establish? For example, what is to be established by pots, etc., is holding water, etc., and what can establish is the lump of the pot, etc. Like this, the same things are what is to be established and what can establish have the same identity. The nature of that thing is it. Because it becomes the cause, from other things that are not to be established and cannot establish, the nature of various different things, also with many aspects of nature, produces the characteristic of a discriminating mind that has the same form, and the habitual nature of that kind of discrimination also arises from those things. For what, the habitual nature of discrimination and different things, according to number, directly and indirectly arise, for that, it is called that. Therefore, this mind in that way fabricates its own essence onto other things, what appears is that. That is the mind, called conventional. How is it? Because this mind with its own essence, with its own appearance, obscures the essence of other things, the essence of things. Those things, the difference is obscured by that mind, the difference itself is covered, therefore it is called "with some essence." Because the mind with discrimination fabricates, it appears in the discriminating mind. From then on, etc., are the followers, the constant ones, for the appearance of the mind, that is, for the aspect of discrimination, for the same essence in which the mind abides, they call it the general characteristic, combine this with the above content. Which ones are called the general characteristic? Only the things that appear in the mind, that is, only those things that appear in the mind. After experiencing one's own characteristics, just as one experiences, "this is also a pot," "this is also a pot," like this, the unclear discriminating mind, those with the aspect of pot, etc., are what appear in the mind.
