That which is asserted as a later valid cognition in order to avert error is that which has the object of determination, and it is established as having the object of excluding others. The valid cognition that arises later, called "different from that," is the same as the definite knowledge that arises earlier, and like the later valid cognition, it has the object of determination. Why? Because it is said that it "enters the realm of no superimposition." By "in order to avert error," etc., the verse is shown, because whatever other superimposition there is, it has the result of determination, and it is established as having the object of excluding others, and the previous other definite knowledge is also the same, having the object of excluding others. As a reason, "no superimposition," etc., is stated, because it enters the realm of no superimposition. Regarding the explanation of this, "to what," etc., is stated, "to what" refers to the cognizer. Therefore, the previously arising definite knowledge, which is certain to enter superimposition, is established as having the object of excluding others. Furthermore, regarding the meaning that must be apprehended, by asserting another valid cognition in order to avert error, it is thus asserted that it is both a definite object and not definite. Otherwise, because error is not possible. This is also unreasonable, so "furthermore," etc., is stated, whatever nature is not determined by those who are determined, how can that be the object of those who are determined? It is merely the non-object of the object. Why? Thus, those who are determined realize their own meaning, just like this, if it is thought that the determination of the meaning is just this, if it is thought that the definite object is like something else, not a definite object, it is also like that. "Those" refers to those who are determined. Others said, "Then how now," etc., in order to determine the superimposition on what is apprehended by direct perception, asserting another valid cognition, saying that it excludes others, if it is also thought that what is apprehended by the uncertain direct perception, if it is apprehended only by the power of certainty, then how can it be apprehended by the uncertain direct perception? Therefore, this will lead to a fallacy.

If someone asks: The question is raised with "Direct perception is," etc., because it is thought to be devoid of realization. "That" refers to direct perception. The grasping of appearances such as blue is also not definite. What is it then? Because it appears there, that is, all appearances of indivisible objects appear, so all appearances are grasped. "Therefore" means because of that. It is not that direct perception grasps and does not grasp in order according to certainty and uncertainty, but rather according to appearance and non-appearance. Therefore, if it is not certain, it is not contradictory to establish that it is grasped by direct perception merely by appearance. For those who are certain, it is not the case that uncertain appearances are grasped merely by appearance in the same way as direct perception. If asked why? It is said, "A certain one," etc. For example, seeing a person, although it is certain that it is a person, it is uncertain for others such as robbers, so the ways of entering are different and the names are different. In this way, because it is certain that it is a person, names that are in accordance with the person, such as affection, appear, but because it is uncertain that it is a robber, names that are in accordance with that, such as fear, do not appear. Therefore, whatever has different ways of entering that are in accordance with certainty is grasped by certainty, and whatever does not have different ways of entering that are in accordance with certainty is not grasped. Why is it like that? Therefore, it is said, "Because of that reason," etc. "This" refers to the appearance. "If it is not like that" means that if it is not established that it grasps in a definite way, then even for one appearance, for the appearance that is considered definite, it will not become definitely grasped there. Others also said, "Why," etc. "Different from all" means contrary to the same kind and the different kind. "Just like that" means: Why doesn't the certainty of memory arise from all the differences in the same way as experienced? If asked: By saying that it eliminates others, for the sake of distinguishing other appearances, does the speaker think that another valid cognition enters into another difference?
