In order to realize the hidden, there will be no combination, because everything can be realized only through valid cognition and the initial sound. When other valid cognitions and other sounds intervene in order to cut off the superimposition of other dharmas, it is in order to eliminate the superimposition that a single valid cognition has not clarified, so other valid cognitions and other sounds will intervene. Therefore, in order for other valid cognitions and other sounds to intervene, through sound and correct signs, one can realize that others are cut off. In order to indicate that point, it is said, "For example, like this," and so on. The self-nature of a thing is the entity of the thing. One means without parts, that is, the entity is manifest by its own self-nature. For the object to be examined by valid cognitions called inference, what other unseen part is there? Apart from the self-nature seen by direct perception, what other unseen self-nature is there? Because self-nature has no parts, everything is only visible. Therefore, it will not become an object to be examined by other valid cognitions. "Valid cognitions, etc." refers to words that become numerous due to clear distinctions. It is explained by "The entity of a thing is one," etc. The entity of a thing is one, which is without parts. Whatever inference intervenes in must first be admitted to be manifest. Why? Because if the subject has not been established by valid cognition before, then it is impossible to establish the probandum, because the sign cannot exist simply because the basis has not been established. Therefore, the subject must be completely established, just as sound must be established by direct perception in order to establish that sound is impermanent. Therefore, because one's own self-nature is established only through direct perception, all aspects are established. Why? Because apart from that, there is no unestablished self-nature other than the self-nature of the established sound. If there is an unestablished self-nature, then establishment and non-establishment are contradictory in nature, so it is not its self-nature, not the self-nature of sound. That point is indicated by "What is and what," etc. Establishment is related to not obtaining the dharma. Happiness follows after obtaining. For what establishment and happiness

That which is called "one" is a synonym for "sameness of nature." If a certain essence is not the same in establishment and happiness together with something, and its establishment and happiness are different, then it is not reasonable to associate that essence with something whose establishment and happiness are different. Because the reason for establishing different terms as different lies solely in this. If it were not so, if this different cause were denied, then it would follow that there would be no different terms. Difference or the cause of difference has already been discussed before. Because it is so, for the Dharma nature, manifest things such as sound, since all its own nature is completely cut off, therefore for that Dharma nature, other valid cognitions, such as inference, have no opportunity or scope to enter. If you also have the same fault, then it is said "from seeing similar shapes" and so on. Do not compare nacre to the appearance of silver. The word "like" here means "similar to." How so? Seeing the similarity between the shape of silver and the shape of nacre, because it is only the cause of knowing it to be similar without definitely grasping the particular shape of nacre, therefore it is said to be the similarity of shape, but there is no similarity at all. If it is said, etc., it means that one should not, because of the arising of other similar causes of illusion, cling to other qualities such as firmness with discriminating thoughts, nor should one make presumptions. Here it is said, if one does not cling to other qualities because of the cause of illusion, then I also have a fault. However, one will make presumptions, therefore, in order to cut off presumptions, just as one speaks of negating others, other valid cognitions can enter. If it is said, etc., then it is explained in detail, for whom, to be able to see all the own nature of things themselves, thus combining the words. Just as when grasping the particular shape of nacre, one also clings to the appearance of silver because of the similarity of white, then how can one see what has become an obstacle to certainty?

If one does not combine or fabricate based on the merits of other characteristics, such as the arising of other similar causes of delusion that obstruct certainty, and what is shown, it is not the case. If one grasps the particular shape of a conch shell and fabricates it as silver, that is not the case. However, if one sees the generality of the shape of silver on the conch shell and thinks, "That's it," then it is said, "On the conch shell," and so on. It is not the case that the conch shell is similar to silver and has a special uncommonness, and has two natures. Why? Because that would lead to the fault of realizing the generality and particularity as the nature of the guide. If one does not differentiate, then saying, "This is the generality, this is the particularity," if one cannot differentiate in that way, then it is not permissible to consider it as two, because it is not permissible to consider that silver has two natures. If there is no different appearance, then considering it as two would be too extreme, because for other things that are considered as one, they would also be considered as two. Therefore, it is not permissible for the conch shell to have two natures, so the person who sees the shape of the conch shell only sees the particular, only sees its own characteristic, and not the generality. The causes of certainty are habit and so on, because those are not complete, so the particularity of the shape of the conch shell is not determined, so one presumes that one has seen the generality, that is, the generality of the shape of silver. Therefore, because of the pride that arises from appearing to grasp the generality of the shape of silver, this viewer fabricates the conch shell as silver. Just as the conch shell is fabricated as silver, so for phenomena such as sound, due to the arising of similar causes of delusion, the second different moment arises, and because the difference between the previous and subsequent moments is not distinguished, the nature of that person is fabricated. Because the previous moment also fabricates the nature of the subsequent moment, and fabricates it as existing, it is mistaken as permanent. Therefore, for the nature of sound and other momentary and selfless phenomena, how many other solid things and so on
