If there were confusion, it would not change. Therefore, for things that have number and fruit, etc., and for elements such as earth, water, fire, and wind, there is no similar confusion. Through association with a single generality, there is no similar confusion for those who possess generality. Therefore, it concludes with words such as "therefore." The so-called "therefore" is "because of this." If one does not cling to the concept of generality, as one thinks that generality is different from manifest things, because there is no manifestation, generality is not other. Even if one admits and says that even if there is generality, that generality, like manifest things, abides in its own self-nature, abides in its own essence. The essence of manifestation is not mixed with other things. This treatise explains the part of the verse up to the phrase "because it abides in its own essence." The so-called "therefore" is because it abides in its own essence. All things such as form are considered to be of the same kind, considered to be the same form, and "from other" means returning from things of different kinds, being different. This explains the phrase "from similar things, from other things." Why return? Because one's own essence, self-nature, is the same essence, because it abides in its own essence, this is the concluding word. The words "from what and what" etc. indicate the meaning of the second verse, in order to know that things are different from what and what, they are different from that and that. For each difference, using names and designations as the cause, even if the essence is not different, one can know many qualities such as action and impermanence, but it is not that there are many essences on one dharma. Then, if there are many qualities, what is it like? It is said "taking difference from that and that as the cause," that is, taking return from what and what as the cause and reliance. In order to show that and that difference, those sounds that are nominally established are also certainly expressing their own differences. Therefore, one sound does not express all differences.
