Which serves as the cause for establishing it, or becomes the very result? The word "or" is meant to encompass both cause and result. Regarding the three distinctions and their flaws, "not being cause and result" and so forth have been mentioned. Alternatively, if one makes two distinctions, "being either cause or result," someone might ask, why is the third distinction, "not being cause and result," not necessary? Therefore, "not being cause and result" and so forth are mentioned, because that aspect is not doubted due to being extremely unpleasant to hear; it is a matter of summarization. Not being a cause nor a result, because it has no connection with the sign to be established, therefore, the subject possessing the sign, the property to be established exists, it can be inferred, because it is impossible to infer its existence. If the third aspect is abandoned, the distinction itself remains, and to show that it is also not permissible, therefore, "that" and so forth are mentioned. Because it is the nature of being made, therefore, for the sake of a property that is the reason for another meaning, it arises later; therefore, what is made is the very cause that was previously established. Even if one admits that what arises later is the result, how is it certain? It is only uncertain. That "that" refers to properties such as impermanence, after the entity of what is made has been established. How "that" refers to the entity. The result also depends on other reasons, it is not necessarily present in the cause itself, because the reasons are not certain for producing the result. The property that has become the result is the reason for knowing, what is made itself makes the property to be established understood. Because it understands, therefore, that is what is understood. This is both a property and a reason, so using a special word of abbreviation, that is uncertain. Therefore, with "therefore" and so forth, it is concluded, that "therefore" is because of that. Because the property to be established by the reason of another meaning is not necessarily present in the nature of what is made and so forth, therefore, that cannot be inferred. Others say, then if, and so forth.

If there is no, then it will certainly not arise, not from seeing is arising, not from not seeing is arising. Saying so, it means that seeing and not seeing are not the basis for understanding following and reversing. If it is so, how is it that one is not confused about fire by smoke? It means that if there is fire, then smoke is seen, and if there is no fire, then smoke is not seen. If one does not realize this, then there is no way to avoid confusion by other kinds of smoke. It is also thought that things of cause and effect are understood only by seeing and not seeing. Like this and so on, is the answer. If there is fire, then smoke is seen, and if there is no fire, then it is not seen, it is not said that one is not confused by smoke only by this. However, the result of fire is smoke, how is it? Because of following the law of the result. Following the law of the result is not only by seeing and not seeing. However, it is from the special measure of direct perception and non-perception. The words direct perception and non-perception also only show direct perception, that is, the aspect of things that appear in cause and effect and are desired is direct perception. The aspect of other things that are separated from them is non-perception. These direct perceptions and non-perceptions, if they help each other, then they are established, not only one, sometimes non-perception precedes and establishes direct perception, and sometimes direct perception precedes and non-perception. Among them, let us say the nature of the first one, like this and so on. Its nature is the nature of impermanence, those who want to be the cause, from the non-perception before the near. The non-perception becomes the nature of the object, this non-perception then prevents that there is also fire near the front, and those who come from other places, and the grass, trees, walls, etc. that are near the front of the fire, those are the cause. If those are the cause, then the smoke should also be seen near the front of the fire. Near the front of the fire, there is only the appearance of being in that place, or coming from another place, or being the cause of others, If only by this, then the smoke should not be produced by fire, if it changes, if it changes, then all of them are as said.
