Here, the teacher said that since the basis is abandoned, there is no doubt about it, because without it, one will not enter into it. Because the examples state the cause of the connection, if one knows that the reason is related, then by stating either the similar or the dissimilar, through understanding the meaning, even if the other is not stated, correct recollection will arise. This is also because the teacher combined it with words. Or, it is said "through understanding the meaning," because this treatise arises from the gateway of reason. The word "also" depends on the previous permanent dharma arising from this itself. Because some will become very famous, it is said that stating any one is also established, and after saying this, it is also because "through understanding the meaning," etc., arise. "Any one" means either the similar or the dissimilar. "Both are fully shown" means that stating any one is also established. In that treatise, the teacher also thought that through examples, the nature of the self-nature reason and the effect reason, and the objects of the cause, are fully shown in order, and it is not merely seeing and not seeing, so through understanding the meaning, by stating one example, the other example is also established. Fifth chapter. Furthermore, if how can another be established through understanding the meaning? He said, "Like this," etc. "Any" means that through a general statement, all created things are completely included. If it is said, "Whatever is created, that is impermanent," then, clearly and without doubt, this dharma called impermanence, is related to the very nature of being created, only related to being created itself, seen by valid cognition, that is, determined by valid cognition, it will definitely be determined as such. If it is said, for the result, is the cause not necessarily existent? That is also not its nature. Therefore, it is said, "If there is no different meaning." In order to show through which valid cognition it is seen, it is said, "In order to determine its existence," meaning that if there is creation, then impermanence necessarily exists, that is the conclusion.

Association is not a matter of cause and effect. If something exists, what inevitably exists is its own nature, such as its own essence. If conditioned phenomena exist, then impermanence inevitably exists, which is the reason for its own nature. Therefore, by understanding its essence, that is, understanding that conditioned phenomena themselves are the essence of impermanence, such a person actually understands that if the impermanence to be proven does not exist, then conditioned phenomena do not exist either, which will become certain. Just like this, if one's own nature as self, impermanence, does not exist, then conditioned phenomena, which have become its self, will not exist either. Why? Because there is no difference between what is to be proven and what can be proven. Therefore, for the time being, through similar dharmas, it is explained that dissimilar dharmas can be indirectly understood through association. For the association of dissimilar dharmas, similar dharmas will also be understood, therefore, "similarly" and so on are said. If it does not exist, that is, if impermanence does not exist, then conditioned phenomena inevitably do not exist, thus, by merely stating dissimilar dharmas, for the person who recognizes that it is its essence, for the person who recognizes that what can be proven is the essence of what is to be proven, the recollection of following will arise, it should be explained in this way. If, as said, how can one recognize that it is its essence by stating dissimilar dharmas? "Just like this" and so on are said, this dharma called impermanence is the essence of this conditioned phenomenon. Therefore, if it does not exist, if impermanence does not exist, then conditioned phenomena do not exist either. If it is not like this, that is, if it does not become the essence of impermanence, then conditioned phenomena will not exist without it, because this is impossible. Therefore, by recognizing that it is its essence, that is, recognizing that conditioned phenomena are the essence of impermanence, the recollection of following will arise. In the reason of self-nature, after explaining that both can be understood through any association, for the reason of the result, "similarly" and so on are also said. Where, that is, using the mountain to represent, includes everything. There inevitably exists fire, thus, the following is stated.
