If you say, because it is not so, therefore I do not think this is without self, if that is the case, then how can other things, such as vases, which are different from living bodies, be established as valid means of cognition for selflessness? It is not permissible to say that some Buddhist commitments are valid means of cognition and some are not. If you say, I believe that the living body has a self, therefore this is not without self. We both acknowledge that vases, etc., are without self, therefore it is said "because of commitment," etc. It is said, "Having distinguished between that which has self and that which is without self," etc., that the living body has a self. Vases, etc., are without self, having made this distinction. Because the selfless vases, etc., do not have life, etc., it is said that they are knowable, and others will also acknowledge that this arises from scripture and is established by scripture, and is not to be inferred. Therefore, even if one does not see the nature of vases, etc., as being unable to see the self, because the opposite of self has not been established, there is no opposite of life, etc., from any selflessness, therefore it is not knowable. Thus, for the time being, the opposite of self has not been established from anything. After making a commitment, it should also be said that for some people, it is seeing vases, etc. That which is opposite, that is, the opposite of self, that is, the opposite of life, etc., but because there is no connection. Because there is no connection with the self, therefore for everything, that is, not seeing vases, etc., also because of the true opposite, the opposite of life, etc., cannot be established. Because of doubt about the opposite, it is not knowable. If one commits to the opposite simply because one has not seen it, then there are other faults as well, therefore it is said "a combination that cannot establish anything," etc. What is that like? Similarly, it is said "having and not having in the similar side," etc. This is the treatise of the teacher. From this it is said that the dharma of the পক্ষ is accepted as valid by both the proponent and the opponent. This eliminates non-establishment, doubt, and non-establishment of the basis in either or both of them. How is the dharma of the পক্ষ

Similarly, eliminating the four types of non-establishment, also with respect to what is called existence and non-existence in the similar side, the aspect of non-establishment is eliminated by following and reversing. What is called "should be stated as appropriate" means: the combination of non-establishment is also not what is to be stated. To show this, it is said, "If it is only non-perception," if it is only that non-perception is not a valid means of knowledge, then there will be doubt about the reason on the dissimilar side. If asked: How is it? Because if it is seen, then it does not exist. Because if the reason is seen on the dissimilar side, then that doubt does not exist. Therefore, if it is said, "Because of non-perception, the reason contradicts on the dissimilar side," then this is only wanting a reason to doubt the contradiction of meaning. Therefore, even if it becomes doubt, it will not be removed, because it has been made the object of doubt, and the contradiction that has become doubt will also not be removed. If it is said that because "should be stated as appropriate" has appeared, therefore "as appropriate" is said, is it only that which has become doubt and has not been removed? That is not so. Because what is said immediately following it, "Whatever statement pervades both," whatever statement says the third mode and non-establishment, etc., that is only non-establishment and refutation, because such a statement will appear. If it becomes the view that doubting contradiction is a reason, then "pervades" will not be said. Saying "as appropriate" is done to avoid the fault of the subject not being established on the dissimilar side. Because mere non-perception is not certain, therefore, the teacher thinks that even if the reason is not seen on the dissimilar side, doubt will arise, so it will not contradict from the dissimilar side, therefore it is said, "Determining the remover of doubt is removal," to explain this. Furthermore, if one wants to contradict by non-seeing, then the particularity, that is, the nature of being heard, etc., will become the reason for cutting off the uncommon. Why? Because permanence and impermanence, etc., are seen through the path. Now, the nature of being heard
