For that reason. The signs such as recognition and association with existence do not apply to some things that conform to the similar side, that is, things that have the same nature. Also, because it is necessary to examine whether it depends on permanence, it is said "one." Also, because even a moment has the same nature, it is said "constant," in short, it means that it is not a destructive thing at all times. For lamps and so on, their natures are different, that is, they have mutually transforming arising, precisely because the signs of recognition and so on can be seen in these things, so they exist on the dissimilar side, so they are contradictory in themselves. By saying "no," etc., other schools think that recognition is not contradictory. Where recognition does not have different arising, it shows that it has the same nature, because it exists in illusory lamps and so on. If you ask: What is the illusion itself like? Because it is mistaken to think that it has the same dharma nature, that is, between the previous and subsequent moments, wherever there is similarity, there will be illusion, that is, being deceived. Therefore, some people will say that taking the recognition without illusion as the valid reason is not present in lamps and so on. The so-called "things without different arising" and so on are the views of the teacher, that is, relying on what, or relying on what measure, can it be said that recognition is without different arising? There is no measure to prove that recognition arises from a permanent thing of the same nature. Why? Because non-difference also exists before and after all things such as vajra. For example, what was the previous nature of things such as vajra, is it the same afterwards? Or is it something else? However, it should be like lamps and so on, mistakenly regarded as one by gathering, which is exactly what needs to be examined. If you ask: Since there is no difference between vajra and other things, is their difference also uncertain? No, because the difference between cold and hot touch can be determined. Therefore, some things such as vajra become cold, and some become hot, which is also incompatible with no difference.

If, after making a commitment, one still says there is uncertainty, then that is their own doubt. If one cannot understand that there is 'absolutely no difference,' then the reason called 'knowledge,' this sequence of no difference is not reasonable. This itself is indicated by 'doubt' and so on. From the sign of recognizing doubt in similarities, sound cannot be established as completely identical. If it is said that because the prior and subsequent states are different, that is, they cannot be seen separately, therefore vajras and so on are established as completely identical, then it is refuted by 'no' and so on, because it is possible to see differences in vajras and so on. Why? Because the prior and subsequent knowledges of vajras and so on, in sequence, are established as being existent and non-existent. Thus, the later knowledge directed towards vajras and so on, because it did not exist before, proves that the difference in its own cause did not exist before, and because it exists later, it also proves existence. Thus, the prior and subsequent knowledges prove the existence and non-existence of vajras and so on. Because different natures are possible, that is, there is difference. To clarify this, 'if' and so on are stated. 'Arising later' refers to the knowledge that arises later in time. If, at the time of the prior knowledge, the causes were very close, then it would arise like the prior knowledge, but that is not the case. Therefore, if these knowledges do not arise, it indicates that they were previously separated from their own cause. If that is not the case, if those causes were to exist before, then they would either be capable or incapable. If capable, then they would also arise before. Why? Because capacity is the cause of arising. If incapable, then they will not arise later either. Why? Because incapacity is excellence, because it cannot be done, so one cannot obtain capacity from anything. If one obtains capacity from something later, then obtaining capacity itself is untestable, because the previous nature of incapacity disappears.
