If it is thought, how does a well-perfected sense organ grasp only nearby sounds, and not also grasp noises of different natures? If it is perfected because of the proximity of sounds, then, for things that are constant and pervasive, there is no sound that is not close to anything, therefore, all sounds would be heard simultaneously, which would lead to the same fault. Twenty-ninth fascicle. If it is not that noises are grasped simultaneously, but rather in sequence, then, hearing many sounds is also because the entry of sounds is rapid, therefore, because of the rapid entry, those sounds that enter in sequence, when grasped in sequence, would also be mistaken for being heard simultaneously. If it is mistaken for being heard simultaneously because of the rapid entry, then, the sound of a flute is continuously understood, because any differences in sounds, and those branches that are used to understand, are also gathered together because of the rapid entry, therefore, it would be thought that they are mixed together, and not understood through ordered branches of understanding that are not mixed. In this way, for long and very long branches, it would also be mistaken for being heard simultaneously because of the rapid entry, therefore it would not be possible to know through long etc. Similarly, for words and speech spoken quickly, it would also not be possible to distinguish the order of before and after. The prevention of this will also be explained in the analysis of the simultaneous entry of consciousness in the third chapter. Therefore, for noises, it is not that they are mistaken for being heard simultaneously because of the rapid entry, but rather that many sounds themselves are grasped simultaneously. If it is thought that one sense organ can only determine one object, then, understanding and comprehending one sound is understanding one object, and this one object, because the abilities are each determined, is therefore not a noise, a sound with many natures, if it is not like that, it would also be heard. Therefore, if it is not possible to determine understanding one object, then, the fault that a well-perfected sense organ can grasp everything simultaneously still remains. To this, if the sound
