Furthermore, it speaks of what is called "the difference of meaning," and so on. The difference of meaning refers to the meaning that appears in one's own continuum through the speech that is prompted and generated by what one wants to express, which abides in the mind of the speaker's discriminating intellect and reveals it. The very cause of the word is what one wants to express, which shows and clarifies that meaning. To whom does it reveal it? It is to the one who knows "this comes from this," that is, the one who understands that "this word comes from this that one wants to express." Furthermore, it is like that: the self-nature and verbal representations that are characterized by what one wants to express are the relationship of the nature of what is to be produced and what produces, because the intellect is what produces and sound is what is to be produced. Therefore, understanding from sound is indispensable, because it is the nature of what is to be produced and what produces. Therefore, if there is no meaning in the intellect, sound will not arise, and because it is an indispensable cause, meaning will be understood from sound. Therefore, how understanding arises from sound, and how the knowledge that arises from sound is included within inference, is the answer to what was said before. At that time, someone said, "Then, what is the need for convention?" To that question, it also speaks of "it makes it manifest," and so on, that is, convention is what makes manifest what is indispensable, because it makes it manifest. As it is said, the relationship between sound and meaning is irreversible, because it has been acknowledged as a relationship characterized by being indispensable. However, it refutes those who assert a relationship of ultimate meaning, that is, those who think there is another meaning. From that, it is through convention that one understands, because the relationship characterized by being indispensable, which is a branch of understanding meaning, is established. In order to make the relationship manifest, convention is approximated as a relationship, that is, there is no contradiction in calling it a relationship in some respects, which is a voice coming from the depths of the heart. Convention itself is not a complete relationship. As it is said, the relationship that has characteristics...

Elsewhere, the connection between sound and meaning is always constant, which is excellent. Therefore, if words, that is, sounds, are definite for one meaning, then even by convention, for those things for which the sound is not definite, other meanings will not be understood or comprehended. Why? Because, for a connection that is definite for each meaning, there is no reason to understand a meaning that has no connection. Why? Because that connection would become meaningless. If it is not as desired, then that connection itself cannot understand a meaning that has no connection. If someone says: by the power of intention, etc., then it is explained that: all sounds that are conventionally made by the power of individual intention clearly express all meanings, that is, it is obvious that they express very clearly. If for one meaning, the sound is not actually connected, but, for many meanings, the sound alone can determine that meaning, then, if someone says: for many meanings, etc., then it is explained that: if the sound admits to having an obvious connection with many meanings, then, when the sound that expresses each of the many meanings is conventionally determined by the determination of one meaning, if it can clearly express, then it only expresses the meaning that is obviously expected, and not other contradictions, because there is no certainty. Therefore, it may be possible to clearly express contradictions, that is, it may be possible to clearly express a meaning that contradicts the meaning that is obviously expected. If someone explains with "if what", etc., then, if for one meaning each is definite, showing many meanings by convention contradicts what is seen, therefore, do not contradict what is seen, thinking that all sounds can express all meanings. If like this, using "therefore" etc. to show that it is possible to clearly express contradictions, that is, just as it is expected that all things can express all things, so also should this be expected, because all meanings are not proof of all results, this is a matter of course. For the kind, it is explained with "because of the cause" etc., that is, because the cause and effect are each definite. If that reason exists, then it can prove the special thing that is definitely determined
