Action refers to lifting and so on. The general refers to existence itself and cows, etc. The word 'etc.' refers to distinctions, etc. Other than objects such as blue, etc., nothing else exists as direct perception, because other than that, there is no invisibility, and it has already been said that the general is not direct perception itself. Substances, etc., will also be explained in the third chapter. Inference that enters by the power of things is inference that does not rely on scripture. For those who consider it to be its object, it will transform in that way, becoming the object of inference. What is harmed by inference that considers it to be its object is, for example, saying 'for example,' etc., which will also be explained in the second chapter below. Those that are not to be inferred will transform in that way, that is, the nature of not being inferred. What are they? For example, saying 'for example, self,' etc., the word 'etc.' refers to the chief and Ishvara, etc. Those have no sign whatsoever that could become the object of inference. For the time being, it is not the sign of nature, because its very nature is the nature to be proven. Nor is it the sign of result, because the result of permanent things is not permissible. When the two kinds of valid cognition that enter by the power of things, at the time when the scriptures are completely pure, later establish the dharma of the treatises that accept valid cognition, because of the inference that contradicts before and after. When one enters into the analysis of distinctions, at that time it is inference that relies on scripture, which is the occasion of saying that inference that relies on scripture is without harm. What is that absence of harm like? For example, saying 'desire,' etc., the nature of desire, etc., that is, accepting the nature of desire, hatred, and ignorance as non-dharma, and what arises from that, that is, accepting the actions of body and speech caused by desire, etc., as non-dharma, and then abandoning it, that is, bathing and fire offerings, etc., in order to eliminate that non-dharma, and believing that sins can be exhausted through bathing on the steps of a river.

Furthermore, it has not been taught that sins are exhausted by burning fire and ghee, etc., for the sake of something. The word 'etc.' includes fasting, etc. Thus, bathing, etc., does not prevent sins, because there is no contradiction with the close attachment to sins, such as desire. If something does not harm the cause of something, then it is not a harm to it. For example, for a person with mucus disease, sweet, cool, and oily substances are not harmful. Bathing, etc., does not harm the cause of sin, which is a universal contradiction and aim. The two types of direct perception and inference just mentioned can completely cut off, and the purity of the nature of certainty and harmlessness that is completely cut off is not deceptive. The words of the exhaustion of sins are the same as non-deception, just as direct perception and inference can completely cut off the meaning of non-deception, the words of non-deception of the exhaustion of sins are also very hidden, because it is the satisfaction of the exhaustion of sins. Therefore, the teacher said that the wisdom arising from the sign of the nature of the words of the exhaustion of sins, which is the meaning of non-deception, is inference. In which realm? The answer is, in this hidden realm. The so-called hiddenness of this treatise refers to the very hidden realm, that is, the realm of practice. Moreover, there is no opportunity, because other methods cannot enter the very hidden realm. If there is an opportunity to enter, then enter in that way. Becoming like that, etc., is a cutoff. The so-called 'that' and 'this,' these two general terms are words of cutoff and closeness. That is, the inference taught by the teacher Dignāga, and what we are going to analyze through relationship and expedient means, etc., is shown in this way. That is why it is said to have become like that, meaning to have the qualities of relationship, etc. It should be understood through direct perception and inference.
