It is a sign, which means it is born from that. When all things of the same time are understood, then it is the inference of the cause, and whatever has the sign of the effect is the sign of the effect and is born from it, that is, it comes through that. Because of that reason, there is no other reason that can make people understand besides the three types of reasoning. Why? Because there is no sign of its own nature and the things that arise from it, and there is no certainty that things that are not related to nature will not occur if they do not exist. The meaning of "by this" is the explanation of inferring shape from taste. Ants moving is them carrying eggs and moving elsewhere. Fish jumping is fish jumping in the water. The word "etc." includes lightning and frogs croaking, etc. Inferring rain, etc., here, the word "etc." also includes wind, etc. Because how to infer it and the dharma of the cause. It is said as if it were born in the reasoning of the fruit. In order to show that itself, it is said "also in that," etc. Ants moving, etc., is the same in that. The cause of rain is only the change of phenomena, the meaning of "only" is that the change of phenomena is the only cause of rain, ants, etc. commotion, etc., is the cause of the characteristics of moving, etc., which are connected in order. Therefore, from what kind of phenomenon change of the cause of rain, infer the cause of the commotion of ants, etc., thereby inferring rain. For this, only the possibility is inferred, not just the rain, because there may be obstacles and commotion. Therefore, even if the causes are assembled, the result cannot be inferred, but only the possibility. In order to show those wise people, etc., those who can infer the result even if the causes are not assembled, those are completely contrary to reason, so it is said "causes are not assembled," etc. Not assembled means defective. The inference with remainder is uncertain, this is a summary statement. Why? Because there is no ability.

rir ro. The explanation of this is that it is only through the collection of causes, and so on. By the word "only," although one cannot infer entirely from the result, if one can infer from the cause, it can only be inferred through the collection. Because without the collection, there is absolutely no ability. For example, the body can infer desire. This is an illustration. The explanation of this is, for example, the body and the senses, and so on. The body, senses, and mind are separate. This person possesses desire, etc., because he possesses a body. Because he possesses senses. Because he possesses a mind. Like this, from the body, etc., one can infer desire, etc. The word "etc." includes hatred and ignorance, etc. The sutra mentions the body and desire only for the sake of convenient explanation. The cause of desire, etc., is not only the senses, etc. Why? Because desire, etc., is preceded by attachment to self and what belongs to self. Which desires, etc., are preceded by attachment? For the cause, namely self and what belongs to self, the attachment that thinks "this is me," "this is mine," whatever exists in those things, those are called those things. Before all afflictions arise, there is non-virtuous attention, etc., this is establishing the tenet. Virtuous attention refers to the impermanence, suffering, and selflessness of things, etc., because it is in accordance with the arising of correct view. Holding and focusing on these is virtuous attention. It is both that and attention, so it is virtuous attention, namely the wisdom of selflessness. The opposite of this, leaning towards self, etc., is non-virtuous attention, because all faults such as desire arise before it. Are the body, senses, and mind not also the cause of desire, etc.? If they do not exist, then

If it is said, because one has not seen attachment. The answer is, it has already been said that the body and so on are the cause. The so-called "only for those" refers to those who are not properly mindful and are separated. In order to establish attachment and so on, the opposite side is the absence of attachment and so on, such as stones. For those, the reason of having the body and so on is established, even if many have been seen, if refuted, because there is no valid proof that can harm it, this inference is with remainder. Therefore, it will become doubt, but it is not certain. Just as it was said just now, because it is not valid, similarly, just because the reason is not seen on the opposite side, from seeing the general result, one infers the special cause. The knowledge of the reason is like a valid proof. It appears like a valid proof, but it is uncertain, this is the concluding remark. Like what? Like those who have attachment from language and so on. It is explained through "shaking and language, etc.". Shaking is the shaking of the two lips, which is bound to occur when speaking. The word "etc." includes other changes such as the appearance of language when speaking. The general intention to speak is simply the intention to speak, without difference. Those shakings and so on that have that cause are called that. Its nature is that, because of that reason. If it is said that the intention to speak is itself attachment, then because of the intention, there will be no harm at all. If that is the case, it is establishing what has already been established, this is the concluding remark. Again, How do you know which is attachment? It is said "Attachment is" and so on. The wise say that attachment is the mind's clinging, the observation of the aspects of permanence, pleasure, self, and what belongs to self, which is driven and produced by that, having the object of contaminated dharmas, which refers to having the earlier aggregates of taking as the object. If it is said that for those who are free from attachment, it is thought that there is loving-kindness and compassion, those are also because they are directed towards sentient beings, so they also enter into the observation of self and so on, and they also enter into the following attachment to sentient beings.
