For these, sound will inevitably have an effect. Why? Because for those things that have not been established in the realm of knowledge and sound with a single form, for all things called inexpressible, because affirmation and negation are not possible. If, by negating a form that does not exist in something, knowledge can be expressed, then, the meaning of the abandoned form of negation will be affirmed, is that so? If so, then affirmation and negation will arise. Following and reversing are the supports of affirmation and negation, whatever term has that, it is called that. The absence of that term shows things like fire. Fire is the nature of warmth, this is a term with a support of following. The absence of warmth is a support of reversing. In order to show that this term will also not become widely known in the world, the word "also" is spoken. The term of warmth, by distinguishing the absence of warmth, the characteristic of the absence of warmth is also not established in some form. If these are cut off, how is warmth established? Therefore, "other nature" etc. are spoken, only the absence of warmth is a different thing from the nature of warmth, without characteristics, explained by the way of abandoning it. Therefore, absence is reasonable, but not one's own essence, the nature of other characteristics. Because it is not established in any form in the discriminating wisdom and the realm of sound. Because it is impossible to understand the absence of fire in any form. The characteristic of distinguishing is the inability to understand the nature of fire, for example, just as the nature of fire is for all things, therefore, the practitioner will become confused and without certainty. If so, for things like fire, no matter how one negates something that does not exist, sound will inevitably have an effect, this is a refutation. However, what is negated is that only things that are not the touch of warmth will become different things from fire. Warmth is fire, but the absence of warmth is not fire, or fire does not have

Because it is thus prevented that there is no touch of decay. Chapter Twenty. Now, words such as "how" and so on, from the phrase "only existence," appear as existence itself. If "to prevent" means non-existence, then how can one say that something both exists and does not exist in one thing? One answers with "for all" and so on, that one does not say that there is no warmth in fire, and if one says that, one is admitting existence. Furthermore, if one prevents existence in all things, then one is preventing all dharmas. It would become contradictory to assert both existence and non-existence in one thing. One would say, "Only this fire has no lack of warmth." Therefore, existence in one thing and non-existence in another are not contradictory. The same reasoning applies to "thing" and so on. Preventing a place is saying, "This is not here." Preventing time is saying, "It does not exist now." Preventing a dharma is saying, "It does not exist in this way." It is not preventing a subject of dharma (chos can). Why? Because if one prevents it, that is, if one prevents the subject of dharma, then its place, that is, the word that has the place of dharma, cannot be used because it inherently lacks a place. Therefore, because the word for the subject of dharma cannot be used, there is no application of negation to something for which a place has not been indicated. When saying, "This is not here," one must undoubtedly state the place of negation closely with words such as "here." Otherwise, one will not know what place is being negated. Therefore, all the texts that clarify and so on are stated in order to refute them from the perspective of the former position. "Well then" and so on are asking a question. "It" refers to the prevention of place, time, and dharma. The word "etc." in "place, etc." refers to time. Because the clarification is different, it is a plural word. The meaning is also not, it is dharma, but it is not indicating the subject of dharma with the word "meaning," and also one does not want to prevent the subject of dharma itself. One does not prevent the subject of dharma such as a rabbit's horn, nor is it a place, etc., but one would say, "A rabbit's horn does not exist," a rabbit's horn
