Then, therefore, it is said "for that" etc., it is considered that for the opposite result, it also needs to depend on place and time etc. For example, because smoke rises in the sky, there is no cold here, at what time? At some time when it becomes as if it does not exist, this refers to depending on time. There is no cold here, where? In some place near the fire from which this smoke arises, this refers to depending on place. The word "etc." covers the difference of state. The smoke near the fire depends on what kind of state difference is seen, and at this present time, it is inferred that there is no cold. The word "also" is to cover that even the reason of result, like "there is fire here because there is smoke", also depends on place and time etc. "Otherwise" refers to, if it is not dependent on place and time etc., then the opposite result will be wrong. Like what? It's like the fault that is put forward to prove that there is no cold. For example, in order to prove that there is no cold, that is, in order to prove that there is no cold, the fault that does not depend on place and time etc. is wrong, just like that. Others say: "Then, because the causes gather" etc. "Gathering" refers to being close and not disappearing. For example, seeing the threads of the cause, and the threads held by a person who has the ability to weave temporarily, etc., thereby inferring that the result is the appearance of cloth, how is such a reason of cause included in the three reasons, namely, nature, result, and non-perception? For the time being, it is not included in non-perception, because it is to prove existence. Nor is it included in the reason of result, because it is the nature of the cause. Nor is it included in the reason of nature, because the cause thing infers the other thing of the result. In order to show inclusion in it, it is said "because the causes gather, it is inferred that the result is produced" etc. It means that it is not only inferring the appearance of the result, but also the difference that the gathering of causes is capable of producing the result.

Complete. The term "fruit arises" appearing in the verses should be understood as referring only to the potential of the cause. Because from this (cause) the fruit will arise. Therefore, this is called self-nature. The dharma that has the characteristic of potential is said to be the self-nature of that collection of causes. Why is it called self-nature? Because it does not depend on other things. Therefore, that collection of causes does not depend on other causes. To illustrate this, the words "this also" etc. are mentioned. "This also" refers to the collection of causes. The collection of causes does not depend on other causes because of its proximity. Therefore, it is related only to that much of it. It is the self-nature related only to the collection of causes. Of what is it? It is of the essence, that is, of the collection of causes. This is the concluding word. In this way, if the causes gather, then it can be inferred that from the collection of causes as a sign, there is a possibility of the fruit arising. Because there is possibility from this (collection of causes), it is possibility, that is, inferring the potential to produce the fruit. This is the concluding word. To clarify this, the words "in order to infer that the collection is capable of producing the fruit" etc. are mentioned. The reason for saying "potential is also related only to the collection" is because it does not depend on other causes. Here, those collections that have not yet produced a fruit are what need to be proven to have potential. The reason for saying "because it is a collection" is a general argument. Those that have already produced a fruit are examples. The argument is: whatever is a completely gathered cause is completely transformed in each successive moment, and therefore has the potential to produce a fruit. For example, those collections of causes that have already produced a fruit. This (collection) is also a completely gathered cause, therefore it is an argument of self-nature. Others have also said "why" etc. Why not just infer the fruit from the collection? There are two considerations for this: is the fruit inferred from a cause with unobstructed ability, or is it inferred from a cause that acts? First, the first case is not valid. Because for it, there is no staying in time, the arising of the fruit is only directly perceived.
