It will not change, but it will change simultaneously. As its own nature, for example, it is not like distinguishing the differences of a state, etc., meaning it is similar to that. The word 'etc.' indicates that when one is grasped, the other is not grasped, etc. The mention of arising and ceasing in the sutra is an approximate representation, because the non-discriminating arising, etc., themselves approximately indicate the difference and are certain. Otherwise, what would indicate difference and non-difference? Even in one form, there is also opposition to the same form, having distinction, arising separately, etc., that is the characteristic of difference. There is no opposition, that is, no distinction, having separate arising, etc., that is the characteristic of non-difference. Even if it already has distinction, arising, etc., why is it different? The nature, etc., is mentioned, because the nature is contradictory in one, because arising and non-arising, etc., are contradictory at the same time. Things are not without difference, but if there is also difference, it is not because of the constant cause, it will not lead to simultaneous arising, etc. In all ways, etc., it is to explain this, in all ways there is no difference, if it is not said to be one, how could it be so? It will arise and perish simultaneously. However, this nature of internal and external difference is a characteristic of some state difference, not other differences, having the nature of three qualities, because in the nature of happiness, suffering, and ignorance, there is no difference to everything, etc., because it is different from the characteristics of the state that is said. Chapter 19. Therefore, because the general characteristic is permanent, it exists in everything, but the differences are not, if it is admitted that the differences will also perish. Therefore, when one difference perishes, that which exists as the general characteristic itself is not the nature of that difference, because there are opposite dharmas, so the general characteristic and the difference are different, this is the conclusion.

Furthermore, if one admits that existence and non-existence are the same entity of dependence, then one is admitting contradictory dharmas in one entity. Therefore, what other dharmas are there that possess otherness? There are none. There is no admission of contradictory dharmas in one, because the distinctions such as individual births are completely endowed with otherness in every way. If it is said that the general characteristic is also without otherness for all because it does not arise from otherness and so forth, then, therefore, in mentioning things such as "meaning," one admits otherness and non-otherness in every way according to the order of the meanings of distinctions and general characteristics. The so-called "merely a name," the distinction and the general characteristic being other, is merely a statement; it is not what is intended, nor is it what is intended as a thing. The things that possess the nature of distinction and general characteristic are only intended to be mutually other. That is merely a difference in name, because it is spoken after admitting the meaning, and so forth, as has already been explained above. Therefore, the term "therefore" means "for that reason." The term "this thing" means that the distinction and the general characteristic are only mutually other. How is it? It is like establishment and happiness are not the same, but contradictory dharmas exist. The reason is that the general characteristic and the distinction do not become objects of mind; the general characteristic and the distinction do not become objects of mutually related minds. Even without mind, sound is only abandoned. That is because it is the cause of mind. For that very reason, the commentary states that "sound is not reasonable," and only states the absence of sound. That absence does not occur if there is no absence of mind. Even for the absence of mind, it is only implied. Therefore, the term "therefore" means "for that reason"; this general characteristic has become a different meaning from the various distinctions and does not depend on the various distinctions. Why? Because those various distinctions did not give rise to that general characteristic. The second meaning is that, therefore, this thing that has the nature of distinction, which has become a different meaning from the general characteristic, does not depend on that general characteristic, because it did not give rise to it, because it is permanent.
