Thus it is said. Considering the aspect of temporary sounds, "anything" etc. are mentioned. "Anything" refers to the subtle particles of blue etc. "Separate" refers to those that do not depend on each other, such as blue and yellow. "Collection" refers to those that gather one upon another. "Some" refers to eye consciousness, or that which obstructs the arising of others in one's own realm. "The meaning of knowing simultaneously" is for the sake of ascertaining many things with one sound. So, what are those that are close to eye consciousness? Those that can be indicated by words with special circumstances are said to be "capable of being indicated," and those that obstruct the arising of others in one's own realm are indicated as "having obstruction." Aren't blue and yellow etc. very different? If so, how can they be expressed with one sound such as "capable of being indicated"? Therefore, "the generality of their difference from others" etc. are mentioned. That is the generality of those that are different from those that cannot be indicated and those that are without obstruction, because everything is the opposite of those. Therefore, that is the reason. If the sound of "capable of being indicated" etc. is also just the sound expressing the collection of subtle particles, or if it is not thought so? Because even one subtle particle can be expressed by sounds such as "having obstruction." After showing the usage of sound from the aspect of the result, showing it from the aspect of the cause is like form etc., which has the same result. For the sake of expressing its result, because form etc. has the ability to hold water etc., for the sake of expressing that one result, one ability is to be shown. Those that are different from non-pot etc. are with the sounds of pot etc. By mentioning "etc.," the sounds of grain etc. are included. This is the case of "showing the convention." Similarly, those that depend on the cause also have this meaning. The sentence "one sound shows the convention" is transformed and connected. The meaning of mere convention is...

It is necessary to observe forcefully with regard to what is called the small part. All the offspring of a mottled cow are expressed with the single sound of "offspring of a mottled cow," and the offspring of a yellow cow are expressed with the sound of "offspring of a yellow cow." Any sound produced by a diligent person through effort is shown to arise immediately because it is produced by the same cause. The thought of "to do" is searching. Its immediate successor is without interruption. Because it arises there, it arises immediately. These show the difference in causes, and so forth. Having done it through the door of dependence on just the cause, it is said. Because for sound, it is said "arising immediately," and for the condition that depends on the cause, it is said "done." In this way, having shown it temporarily through the door of establishing, in order to show it through the door of negation, it is said "likewise" and so forth. For example, by negating the result of what is to be perceived by the eye, such as blue, which is the eye consciousness, sound is not what is to be perceived by the eye, because it is not a power for eye consciousness. In this way, generally, it is expressed by the sound of "not what is to be perceived by the eye." The sound of impermanence is also to be established by severing permanence, and that is solely through negating the result. Like this, others consider permanence to be a real entity, not just non-existence. If it is not to be proven, nor a prover, then because it cannot enter the path of names, one should acknowledge either what is to be proven or the prover. For it, because it is permanence itself, it is not to be proven, but it is the prover, and others should now also think so. In this way, the self-abiding always is the prover, or whatever result depends on the self, that which always proves is therefore that its result is severed and turned back and becomes the sound of impermanence. In order to show that some results are self-sustaining, the sound of "self" is also made, and in this way, if what is not its result is severed, it becomes the sound of selflessness. In this way, having shown it through the door of negating the result, in order to show it through the door of negating the cause, it is said "its" and so forth.
