Due to the characteristic of reversal transforming into the nature of Dharma, things become non-existent. Because the nature of all things transforms into other natures, the very thing that possesses Dharma-nature becomes non-existent. Because that is the essence of Dharma, some say so. Others explain in other treatises, like different characteristics, as non-different. If faults are stated regarding characteristics, things possessing characteristics, and other aspects, others say that even so, those possessing that characteristic are the same, therefore there is no fault in this. Therefore, they mention "merely different characteristics" and so on. The very thing possessing that different characteristic will become different. Why is that? Because it is to show the characteristic of "this is different from that." The so-called "this is different from that" is the fifth case in the sense of the sixth because of the very first and so on. For example, a thing possessing characteristics, in order to show the characteristic of "this is different," those things should not be the same, this is their thought. Therefore, the characteristic and the thing possessing it are not the same, in that case, it will become the situation of the previously stated fault, therefore it is called "the non-existence of the characteristic." The treatise should be explained as before. If the general reversed things are the very general thing, or not a generality fabricated by others, then the very general thing should be stated. There is also a fault in this, they say "then how is it?" The so-called non-difference is when an indivisible thing is expressed by sound. That is an approximate representation, even when understood through signs. That itself is the difference of non-different things, because it is also different from other things. In that case, the thing that is different from the very nature that is not expressed by sound is also different from things that have bodies and are permanent, because that is indivisible. When an indivisible thing is expressed by sound as different from a sound that is not created, similarly understood through signs, therefore by understanding all differences, for that indivisible thing sound

How could sound and valid cognition (pramāṇa) not change if they had no other purpose? If one sound expresses something, and other sounds and one sign can understand it, then all sounds and valid cognitions (pramāṇa) would become without any other purpose. The answer is given by "because of what" and so on. Therefore, what kind of distinction is the dharma? By what is it understood? By "by what is it understood" and so on, the opponent is answered, and it is also arranged to express the remaining meaning. To impute things in other ways is a mixed meaning. Among them, distinguishing one mixed meaning is clear, and that is the function of one sound. Among them, "it" refers to the nature of the dharma that appears separately in the mind, because that itself is the object of expression of sound, and a common basis and so on may also exist on that. The characteristics of external objects are also not mixed with anything, nor have they become mixed and different, as it is said: The objects of the meaning of the noble ones do not exist with their own mixture and difference. This is what is taught. Distinguishing one mixed meaning is also the function of a sign. Among them, when distinguishing other imputations, sound and other valid cognitions (pramāṇa) are with results. The object, that is, the external object of expression, is distinguished, and there is nothing other than distinguishing knowledge. From the thing that expresses the thing, the nature of the thing will completely change. The thing of the power of the thing comes from power. For the indivisible part of the thing, it is not appropriate to accept and hold. Because distinguishing is the cause of being an object of expression, the act of distinguishing will become sound, having many results and having the same basis. This explains that the common basis itself is similar to the meaning of sound eliminating others. For example, it is explained that the discriminating mind that is fully present in the mind, mixed with internal and external differences, as if it has become one, exists in whose mind. Connect and arrange the meaning of sound, that is, the object of expression of sound, with one's own appearance. If you ask what the field of names has become, then it can be the name of a thing that is general and the common basis itself, as well as the basis of difference and distinction.
