The characteristic of separation, in other things that do not conform to it, is devoid of its form, such as how the completely seen thing is, and the mind with a form that does not conform to the characteristic, just as how it is experienced in the experiencing person. How it is completely seen, thinking that it is different from that. Such a determination of dissimilar dharmas, the establishment of dissimilar characteristics arises, and this explains the self-nature of the determination of dissimilar dharmas. The so-called "difference from that" indicates the action. It distinguishes from the previously seen thing and establishes it as a different thing. Merely thinking "this is different from that" establishes the difference from that itself, and the reason for saying it again is to make people understand that, without the action of language, by experiencing its self-nature, it distinguishes things that are not its self-nature, so that the determination of dissimilar dharmas arises. The order abides in this way, and how the other determination of dissimilar dharmas is experienced, the one who has this determination manifests the thing that has branches and so on, has the general meaning difference, and should be distinguished from other forms. Clearly indicating "this is only a tree", thereby understanding the difference and interpreting it. For the general self-nature that only conforms to the interpretation does not appear, one will know that it is not a tree without the action of language. In this way, one separates oneself from other forms, and if one interprets based on the general self-nature that is definitely grasped, then all clear similar things will be interpreted, because the general meaning follows everything. If one interprets by definitely grasping "this is only", then because it is easy to know the return from the seen thing, a determination of "this is not a tree" will arise for things different from this, so there is no fault as mentioned above. If someone says that it is the same for those who speak of exclusion, then they say "for those who speak of cutting off" and so on. At the same time of interpretation, the self-nature of uncommon seeing follows everything. Therefore, at the time of interpretation, the difference of grasping "this is a tree" in this way is not seen in other things. In this regard, seeing at the time of interpretation, and

Therefore, for the nature of appearance, a view of apparent differences arises, through which one understands trees and non-trees, and for other appearances, as well as other differences of trees, one will not understand it as "This is a tree." Just as the difference of trees seen at the time of convention is not the same as the nature of vases and so on. Other differences of trees are also the same as this, just as the thought of "This is a tree" does not arise for vases and so on, it will not arise for the differences of trees either. However, the thought of "This is not a tree" will arise, and that is its definition. The teacher said, "If that is the case, then..." etc., to answer the fault of mutual dependence, and this is the same for other conventions that aim to distinguish objects. The so-called "one understanding" refers to knowing that things of the same kind appear in one way. Whatever has the name "that name" is called "that name," which means that even for different appearances, they appear and are known in one way, and because the results are the same, they cling to the same. Therefore, if any of the appearances that are clung to as the same through conceptual thought are conventionally established, then it is equivalent to conventionally establishing all of them, and this is explaining its seed. The so-called "abiding in one" refers to determining each different way of understanding through emptiness, which does not cling to things of different kinds. Because it is far from the image of different kinds of things, all things of the same kind are understood in one way, and the wisdom that abides in this understanding is its definition. This also explains the seed of distinguishing between things of the same kind and things of different kinds. It is expressed by "That is, that and not that cause meaning, etc." The so-called "that" refers to including one understanding. The word "not that" refers to the opposite of "that." That and not that are that and not that. Their cause is that and not that cause, and they also distinguish themselves in front of the agreement. The cause of one understanding with the image of branches and so on is that and that
