If the appearance that appears to conceptual thought, how is it? If it is said that it is not in the clear ones, then it has been stated that "it is the nature of non-existence." The word "is" means "like this." The appearance that appears to conceptual thought, for the clear ones, is neither the same nor different, because it cannot establish its own nature, so it is only without self-nature. If the clear one is a different entity, then it will appear as various experiences of mind. If it is the same, then like the clear one, because there is no following, it is not the same. Even if the clear one is destroyed, because it is not different from it, the clear one is destroyed by destruction, and it will not become a mind with a general appearance. Therefore, the appearance that appears to conceptual thought is only a mistake. When the mind grasps it, it grasps the arising of its appearance. Thus, because it grasps the appearance of no self-nature, it becomes deception and confusion. With the power of previous knowledge, conceptual thoughts do not have this power, etc. has been said. After explaining the elimination of all faults, in order to show that it is the establishment of sameness, "In addition" etc. has been said. It has been said that "not the same by others," and "in that" is for each clear thing. If only in that general appearance, the mind becomes the same appearance, if it is questioned as not the same, then the established sectarians have said "in that" etc. Even if that clear thing has that general appearance, the clear things, the minds of experience, do not understand the appearance of manifestation, because the minds of the eyes etc. have not experienced understanding the appearance of the clear and the general appearance, so from the door of not understanding the general appearance, how can the clear things become minds with the same appearance? If the minds of the eyes etc. are only constantly the appearance of the general appearance, then "it is" etc. has been declared, for the clear things, that experiential mind believes and experiences having the appearance of color and shape. If only the appearance of color etc. is the general appearance, then "the general appearance is" etc. has been declared. "Like this" is the appearance of color and shape, color and

Color and shape, etc., are, but "universals" are because of the difference in qualities. What is called "excluding from that" is excluding from color and shape. In this way, for the time being, for those who say that "universals" are different, such as the Vaisheshika and the Naiyayikas, it is not permissible to have non-different knowledge, because there are no "universals." For the Samkhya, who say that "universals" are non-different, it is also said that it is unreasonable, so it is said that "appearance is universal," etc. Appearance is merely the similarity of becoming the self-nature of one's own characteristics. That itself is the "universal," where does the Samkhya say that? Where there is a position of saying that, it is called that. That "universal," like the difference, because it is not different from its own self-nature, does not enter into the second, etc., which clarifies other meanings, therefore that "universal" is also different, and merely becomes its own self-nature. Because of that difference, it is not permissible to appear as non-different through that similar path, so-called "for the manifest," is drawn from the heart. In this way, because "universals" are not permissible to be different and non-different, it is said that these manifest ones appearing as one are merely illusions. Now, in order to show that there is no appearance as one for the manifest, it is said, "Or it must be," whatever is said, "The consciousness of non-appearance of difference, does not hope for the different," that must be, there is only hope there, this is the concluding remark. Like this, the consciousness that is focused on the manifest appears differently, why? Because it is clinging to those manifest ones as the same. It is explained by "for those," etc., so-called "for those," is for the manifest ones. If even if it appears as one, will it be clung to as the same? It is said, "For appearing as one," etc. Then what is it? It will think, "It is that," so-called "It is that," is that it will think that this appearance is the one that was seen before, rather than thinking that the previous one and this one are the same, this is the concluding remark, that is, "The term 'universal' with different bases is unreasonable." If "two," etc., that is, if only those who cling to "universal" only, then this fault will appear at this time. However, through the consciousness of "universal," "universal" and one's own
