The above is the discussion on "the common dharma on the cause." In order to explain that "the knowable is the special dharma on the effect," it is said that "if those are lacking, they will not arise, only because of those." That is to say, the dharmas on the effect, such as smoke, if lacking the common dharma on the cause, will not arise, and those dharmas on the effect are merely the reason for the dharmas on the cause. If the common dharma on the cause is the special dharma on the effect, and is such that it will not arise if it is lacking, then it becomes the knowable and the knowing thing. In that case, it becomes the partially produced and the producing thing. For example, fire is only the producer of common dharma, while smoke is only the product of special dharma. If someone thinks like this, that is not correct. Because, if one grasps the difference it produces, then the difference on the smoke produced by the difference on the fire is the difference it produces. If one grasps and determines this, then the difference on the cause is considered the knowable. And the difference of the sign is the self-nature of smoke. If one grasps the things that have the difference of material self-nature, etc., they are considered the knowable. Because the material self-nature, etc., distinguished by smoke, will not be confused with fire. Therefore, only smoke is the knowable, and the material self-nature, etc., distinguished by it, is not. For example, if one says "it is made, because it is measurable," is it not like only the made is the knowable, and the measurable itself is not the knowable? This is true, and the reason for saying this is to fully show non-confusion. Therefore, in other aspects, since there exist all knowable and knowing things, it is not a partially produced and producing thing. Then, when is it that the common dharma on the sign is not the knowable? It said "without distinguishing common and special," etc., the special material self-nature, etc.

Regarding those matters that have not been completed, if one wishes to speak of them, one does not wish to cause misunderstanding in their understanding due to errors. Relying on the reasoning of self-nature, one speaks of "self-nature alone" and so on, connecting it with "is reason," meaning "connected and done" refers to: Thus, they are the reason. Therefore, the self-nature to be established, how is it? The reason that is only related to existence, the nature that is only related to existence, is the reason, which is the reason of self-nature. The mention of "alone" is to show that it does not depend on other things. Why is the reason of self-nature only related to that? Therefore, "its nature" and so on are mentioned. Being only related to that means that whatever its nature is, if it exists, it only exists, and does not depend on other things. What depends on other causes and arises later is not its nature. If asked why, then "if it exists" and so on are mentioned, if that cause exists and does not exist, whatever arises later from the dharma that depends on other causes is uncertain. What depends on other causes and arises later does not necessarily arise. Why? Then "the causes have errors in the result" is mentioned, because the causes may be obstructed, how can one expect the result to necessarily arise from them? Relying on the perspective of non-apprehension, valid means do not apply. "Valid means do not apply" and so on are mentioned, what does not apply? Valid means. The mention of many words is because there are many valid means of clear distinction. Or it also depends on the scriptures, as it is said below: inverted scriptures also cannot establish the absence of things. The non-apprehension of valid means that refute and establish, that is non-existence, and it has the result of non-establishment, because the things created by objects and so on are falsely established as existent, so it is called non-existence. Second chapter. The so-called having the result of non-establishment means that the knowledge of existence, sounds, and terms are all established. That is prevented.
