That which is called "having the fruit of that" is different from those that do not have the fruit of that. The term "only by that" means only by the clarity that has the power as stated before, not in general. The term "suchness" means having oneness. The term "as it is" means not exceeding the thing itself, that is, why can't the knowledge with conceptualization not know the self-nature of the thing itself as it exists, separate from its generality? Why add an unreal generality to the thing itself? The meaning of the term "as it is" refers to non-confused differences, etc. That is, for any thing, if its mutually different differences are not mixed and do not become a single entity, then it can be called "as it is." Conceptualizations do not have the ability to grasp the self-nature of things as they are. Why is that? Because of the power of ignorance, grasping the true meaning is ignorance. Conceptualization is contrary to this, therefore it is only ignorance. The word "power" only refers to ability and strength. This is the meaning of "by the power of conceptualization." The self-nature of conceptualization is not grasping the thing itself as it is, because its self-nature is false. If there is no external thing, then the falsity of conceptualization itself is unreasonable, therefore "external" etc. are mentioned. Here, the self-nature of conceptualization is said to be an internal delusion. The self-nature of conceptualization, that is, it becomes false without relying on external similar dharmas, that is its meaning. Grasping at hair etc. is grasping at the false appearance of hair etc. The meaning is, just as it becomes false without relying on external things, but relying on the internal delusion of the self-nature grasped by an unreal image, so also conceptualization becomes false because it grasps unreal generalities, this is what is thought. For the time being, the internal delusion here is the seed of falsity, and the idea that "because it arises from that" is such a meaning is not correct, because this will be clearly explained below.

Thus it is. The debater says, "By the power of ignorance." Here, the term "ignorance" refers to the seed of dualistic appearance in the continuum that has not abandoned obscurations. "By its power" means arising from it. Similarly, "inner confusion" also refers to that seed. Thinking that such confusion arising from ignorance exists in all consciousnesses, he mentions "also in the eye, etc." The phrase "it is not" and so on indicates one's own view, "that" refers to the nature of ignorance, which is the conceptualization of consciousness with a general characteristic. "That is conceptualization itself" and so on indicates that "that" refers to ignorance. "By its very nature" means by its own nature. "Sense consciousness" and so on avoids the fault of being too extreme, because they do not conceptualize with their own characteristic nature. Therefore, they are not confused by their very nature like conceptualization, but some become confused due to the transformation of the senses, etc. After explaining in terms of external objects, now he mentions "knowable also" and so on. It is explained as follows: Even if the debater searches for faults and establishes the meaning of the term "ignorance" in some way, nevertheless, because of the intention, there is no fault of being too extreme. Therefore, there is no fault in this confusion even in the consciousnesses of the eye, etc., because they are also confused. "That is non-dual" and so on indicates that the self-awareness of the consciousnesses of the eye, etc., is non-dual, therefore it is non-dual. Thus, the apprehended, which appears to be simultaneous and disconnected from consciousness, such as the color blue, etc., cannot withstand analysis as one or many, and therefore does not exist ultimately. In relation to that, whatever is the nature of the apprehender, the consciousness, that also does not exist, but self-awareness does not not exist, because it is direct perception. If it is said that if self-awareness is non-dual, then since self-awareness is direct perception, everything should see that very self-awareness.
