For the sake of establishing. The subsequent statement of the proposition, saying it is a demonstration of the proposition, is also unreasonable, because the proposition establishes, as it is said. The proposition does not change into something else, but rather, it is promised for the sake of establishing something else through reason and so on. It will become a demonstration of what establishes, not a demonstration of what is to be established. For example, because the characteristics of reason, such as pervasion and conformity to the dharma, exist in things that are not pervasive in all places. What is not pervasive in all places is reasonable as a reason, but not as a proposition. Moreover, saying that the proposition is stated for the sake of establishing with the proposition itself is irrelevant. If someone first states the proposition, and then states the reason and example, etc., then if he knows the order of establishing in some way, and the inner faculties have not deteriorated, only the proposition. By promising that the proposition can be established, here one wants to establish only with the proposition, therefore one should not first state the reason, because it is impossible to fully enumerate such connections. For stating another proposition, the other proposition has no definite connection of characteristics, and saying "it is a place of refutation" is also. Unreasonably saying "what can be said is a place of refutation," one should state such a characteristic, but the learned opponents, because they have never seen such a form of term before, who would strive to understand its meaning? Even relying on the words of children will not enter the treatises, and even if they do, there will be no ultimate end, because for them there is no ultimate end. Because the wise have not done very detailed analysis. Saying "unestablished" etc., this can be seen and named, because the name is also seen, so it will be established as the basis of defeat. Therefore, here, when the opponent's intention changes, it will be said to be other uncertain, at that time, because what is said is the uncertain that is not a member of establishment, so...

It is the place for stopping arguments. If the opponent can establish the general, that which is to be apprehended by the senses, and the constant by means of valid cognition, then it will change. Those meanings that are accepted based on treatises that are not valid cognitions, since they are not indicated by valid cognition and there is no true statement of faults, some will not be defeated, because merely promising does not establish things, and because the opponent's faults are not pointed out. Stating that which establishes but is not established by valid cognition will also not lead to victory. Even if the debater's intention is not reversed, there is no fault. Because the ability of the reason has not been closely established through the way of special statement. The contradiction between the pledge and the reason is the contradiction with the pledge. For example, "substance not understood by qualities" is the pledge. "Because the meaning cannot be determined from forms and so on" is the reason. This is where the pledge and the reason contradict each other. It also shows the contradiction with what is pledged, that is, whatever pledge contradicts its own words, such as "a nun is pregnant" or "selflessness." Contradicting the reason, that is, whatever is pledged harms the reason, such as "everything is different, because the sound of things is applied to the aggregate." Through these, the contradiction between the pledge and the example, and the contradiction between the reason and the example, and the contradiction of valid cognition, should also be stated in the pledge and the reason. In the other's position, because of uncertainly indicating through the way that the self-established cow, etc., is established in one's own side, it is contradictory. That is, in the other's position, whatever is mistakenly stated with the self-established cow, etc., should be known as contradictory. It is also without dependence on one's own side. Whatever reason is applied without depending on one's own side, such as "sound is impermanent, because it is to be apprehended by the senses." Among them, the self-established cow, etc., contradicts impermanence, so it is contradictory. If both sides pledge, then it is uncertain. Whatever thing is pledged by both sides, therefore it is said to be uncertain. Here also is the pledge.
