That is wrong. Furthermore, that which has opposition is also a reason. This living body is without self because if it had life, etc., it would follow that it is not possessed of it. Because in the selflessness of a pot, etc., among things seen and unseen, life, etc., are not seen. Because from that opposition, one understands that there is a self. If the non-apprehension of what is not to be seen does not establish non-existence, then the selflessness of a pot, etc., is not established, so there is no opposition of life, etc. If you say that it is established because it is accepted, then how is the self established? Furthermore, how is the non-self, which is not a valid cognition, established? Because by accepting that there is a self and that there is no self, and by distinguishing them, it is said that one recognizes it through non-existence, it is also accepted that the self comes from scripture, and is not to be inferred. Therefore, even if it is not seen, the opposition of the self is not established. For some, that is reversed, even if life, etc., are reversed, it is irrelevant. Because opposition from all things is not established, it is not something that can be understood. Any unestablished combination should be stated appropriately, just as in the similar case there is existence and non-existence, etc. Such an unestablished combination is also not to be spoken of. If it is merely non-apprehension, there is doubt, because if it is apprehended, it does not exist. If it is said that it is opposed because of non-apprehension, then even if it has become doubt, it will not be averted. If it is said that it is only non-opposed because it has been said "appropriately," then what is it? Because any statement will arise that is only certain for both. Therefore, even if it is not apprehended, it must be without opposition because of doubt, and this is said to refute it. Furthermore, that which distinguishes differences becomes a reason because it is not seen. The very thing to be made equal, because it is not seen in what is permanent and impermanent, becomes a reason for distinguishing them through opposition. Distinguishing is other than opposing them. That which is not distinguishing is not certain to be opposed to anything. What does not exist in what?

If it is certain that there is something called "existence," then how can one not understand that it does not exist? If it is harmed by another valid cognition (pramāṇa). If the two are mutually exclusive, then there is another valid cognition that harms. Things that have the nature of mutually excluding each other are not negations because one exclusion establishes the other. If someone says that establishment and negation are contradictory. Then, now there is no non-seeing. In that case, not seeing is not a valid cognition, because there is a possibility of harm. Similarly, for others as well. Other valid cognitions may also be harmed. If things that have characteristics can be harmed, then it will only become refuting its characteristics, so it is not trustworthy for everything. If someone says that for the object of inference, it will also become untrustworthy because seeing things that contradict direct perception and inference. No, because it is impossible for the situation as described before. If it is possible, then it is not its characteristic either. If someone says that it will become a statement of contradiction without error. Because there is no statement for the object of inference, it is accepted, because the object here needs to be pointed out. Furthermore, because of not seeing, touching is seen, and it does not possess the nature of being without error. If the opposite is established by non-perception, if just because of not seeing, offerings and other actions are prevented, then how is what is said, "That is also unreasonable," unreasonable? Because non-perception establishes non-existence. Is it not the only reasonable way to negate the characteristic of the object of touch? It is not reasonable, because it is not just negating the object of appearance and its own nature. Therefore, he generally grasped the earth and so on and spoke of negation. Because for cotton, stones, and leaves, etc., even if it exists, different touches are seen. This also needs to be possible in some special cases, so it is not reasonable to negate everything by seeing. Therefore, the teacher (Dignāga) was looking for faults in some people who said that non-perception establishes non-existence. Furthermore, due to differences in places and so on, different abilities appear on things. Therefore, it is unreasonable to determine that if one is seen, the other also exists. If, like in dissimilar aspects, it is considered that there is no connection just by seeing, then
