Furthermore, if it is said that from the thought of being different from this, a determination that is not in accordance with the Dharma arises, and from this, separation can be made. Then it should be well shown that 'only this is a tree', and the difference should be known. In whatever only this does not appear, then that is not a tree, and one should know it oneself. If it is said that this is not reasonable for those who distinguish, because the nature seen in one place does not follow in other places. If it is said that having seen and understood, then other clarity cannot be understood in the same way? If so, then this is also the same for that, as it is said: One knows the knowledge of what is to be known, by the awareness that dwells in one. Those and non-those causes and meanings, the self distinguishes and acts. This is as previously said, that although these things are different in nature, there is a difference between being and not being for the result of one consciousness, etc., which has been well said. By this, distinguishing them by their own nature, one can know their cause and the cause of what is not them. Of that: The things that the mind has in it, appear as the cause of the mind, and are separated from the nature of non-cause, and the nature is one and the same, by its own nature. It can be known as different, connected with different words, and by that, the mind that can know it, due to confusion, knows as if grasping one thing. Those are only by nature, with the freedom of conditions, following the causes of such distinctions. That is, in the mind that sees it, it is known as the cause of it, and is separated by being different from it. If it is not like that, then one is even more attached to being like that. Those who do not distinguish the difference by the thought of inside and outside, abide in distinction, and follow distinction. These are trees, thus, in the distinction of self and others, appearing as one, universally shown, then it can be known that those distinctions are the cause of consciousness, and it is known by being different. Thinking that they are not the cause, connect those words to the different. By this, the mind that can know it, which has distinctions, appears only by the freedom of confusion, as if grasping one thing. In that, seeing the differences, there is also no such thing that can distinguish the seen and unseen trees and non-trees. That is branches and leaves, etc.

Because one does not perceive the container being held as different from the appearing object, like a container, and because without grasping it as different from others, it will not be invisible. Because seeing one aspect, one cannot look at others. If that and that which is not are wood and not wood itself, then only one clear thing will become wood. For the sound of a pot and so on, there is another meaning. If there is a distinction, then what is the meaning of words such as "...?" There is nothing that does not become different from something. If, because making what is different from it an object, it is knowable, then there is no fault in that. Like this: Because the mind turns away from some things, in order to enter into some things, sound is an excellent connection, because its meaning is definitely grasped. Otherwise, the connection will become meaningless. Therefore, words such as knowable, in conventional terms, even for those who are enlightened, there are some distinctions. All things that excellently connect sound do not go beyond following and returning, because that is the meaning of entering and returning. If this does not make some mind turn away from anything, or does not enter, then it is as it is given. For all conventions, no convention will be established, because if there is no definite grasping, convention does not exist. For example, like saying "fetch water with a pot." If one wants to fetch any kind of water with a pot or a handful, then one will only say "fetch water," and not say "with a pot." Similarly, if one wants to fetch with a duster or anything else, then one will only say "fetch," and only say one without abandoning karma. Similarly, if one wants to fetch or accomplish or something else that is not accomplished, then at that time one will not even say "fetch," because the word is meaningless. Similarly, for words belonging to convention such as "like this," there will also be some things that need to be distinguished, otherwise, if there is no doubt, connection is not allowed. Then, for it, where is the place of doubt of foolish wisdom?
