Just as generating a distinct understanding. Different trees, such as Shapa trees, even if they do not follow each other, it is merely that their own nature manifests distinctly in one way, or other things like fire and houses, just as the purpose to be accomplished by wood is generated according to the conditions. Although different and without distinction, things like water are not like that, just like the ears and so on for the distinct understanding of forms and so on. For example, one medicine, although different, whether mixed together or used separately, can pacify plagues and so on, just as seeing that others cannot do it. Or, for example, clearing away dirt with a broom, whether together or separately, produces the same characteristic result of pacifying plagues and so on. For this, there is no need to rely on universals. Because even though they are different, it is their nature. There, even if there is no difference, it does not arise from yogurt and mustard and so on. If someone thinks that there is some universality in those things, and that is why the same result occurs, then that thought is not reasonable. Because universals have no difference, universals do not produce that result. Those things, even though the fields and so on are different, will turn to ashes without distinction. If the result of pacifying plagues and so on arises from universals, then because it has no difference, even though the fields and so on of the things being cleared away are different, the speed of pacification and the differences in vases and so on, and excellent qualities and the most excellent qualities will not change. However, if universals have differences, then because the essence is different, it will lose its own essence. Because universals are constant, they are of no help, and if they can provide help, then because they do not depend on other things, they will produce all the results simultaneously. Or, it is not the nature of generating. The things being swept away have differences due to time and place and proper handling, so there is no contradiction in saying that they produce special results. Similarly, some things, even though their essence is different, can accomplish things like distinct understanding, because they are different from things that do not do these things, or when one thing produces many things, it is different from those that cannot produce them, so they are not not different.

It is called... Furthermore, should it be understood that the general, which has different characteristics, is the same as its own characteristic? Or, is it entirely other? If so, what would be the consequence? If it is the same as its own characteristic, then how can it be an object of conceptualization? Or, how does it accomplish the purpose of others? Since impermanence and so on cannot be recognized in one's own characteristics, it is not its essence. If it is said that those are not the nature of things either, then there is no fault in this. Because for the meaning that appears to consciousness, the terms commonality and common ground, and dharma and the possessor of dharma, are applied. Although the habit of conceptualization that arises does not hold onto the self-nature of things, but arises depending on the habit established by experience, therefore it is not the object of that (thing), but it is like the object of that (thing), because it is the nature that arises from the habit established by experience. Because it particularly clings to the self-nature of that thing, it arises from a real thing that is not different in result. If, like holding onto the meaning of non-difference, in the ultimate sense, it is different from others and has the same form. Because the form of meaning exists on it, those who apply names enter with such particular attachment. Like an external object, like oneness, even if it does not realize meaning, it appears as if it is realizing meaning. Otherwise, entry is not allowed. Because that appears as if it is realizing the action of meaning. That is like being different for the actors, because it is not a branch of examination. It should be said that that is not the only truth. The meaning that resides in the mind
