Because of faith. Third Chapter. If they are different, then because one cannot benefit others, there should be no dominion of others. If it benefits, then because the ability to confer benefit on ability is endless, there is no realization. If it is different from that, then there will be fault in the beginning, so now it should be "of." What is called the nature of space or space itself does not turn into the sixth of different supports, because there is no generality in it. It is also not said that qualities such as pervasiveness are like that, because other meanings should not be its nature, and they will also become without nature. If it is a different meaning of self-nature, then it will be too much, and there will be no realization. Likewise, it should also be said to the collection of six things, etc., and it is impossible to have generality and number in it. Now, if there is no difference, how can it be called the nature of space? If it is not just called space, then it is said that one wants to know the nature of the cause of the arising of the word space, without relying on the other meaning and common nature of space. Is it impossible to say the self-nature of everything else? Answer: The self-nature itself is not placed in the mind, because it will become not taken by the root consciousness. Thinking that this should be known as such, the word only creates a separate image in the mind of the listener that is unrelated to that self-nature. Thus, for those who have not seen the meaning, it is said that it is only a distinction of meaning. In this way, what is realized and what can be realized, etc., do not realize and show the self-nature, because hearing about the heavenly realms, etc., will also appear the same as those who experience them, and there will be no difference. Therefore, although this does not realize the self-nature of things, it is only satisfied by being particularly attached to such a separate image, because the realization of the meaning of words is only like that. Therefore, it is said that the self-nature has been shown in this way, but only the consciousness that arises from the appearance of the self-nature is generated.

It is not. Now, then, how are things with a single returning nature called universals, since they are unrelated and also non-existent? What a universal is has already been said: one of the unmixed things and the unrelated one is the similarity of those that are the opposite of it, it has been said. Furthermore, relying on different things, the mind that appears as one meaning, with its own nature, obscures the nature of other things, that conventional truth, even if the self is different, also obscures the difference, things appear as if they are not different with some nature. Therefore, due to the power of thought, it is proclaimed that universals exist. How it is completely fabricated, that does not exist in the ultimate truth. The mind with distinctions, when arising from things that are the opposite of those things, produces the nature of its own habit, and makes the difference of those things not appear, clinging to the aspect of the self without difference, thereby universally showing them to be mixed. Through the thing to be proven and the proof being of the same nature, then the things that are different from other things, and the nature of the habit of distinction, this arising from those things, that is what appears like that. Now it is conventional truth, because this obscures the nature of other things with its own nature. Those things are obscured by it in their difference, therefore the self, even if different, appears as if it is not different with some nature. Therefore, in the appearance of the minds of the followers, for the things appearing in the mind, completely grasping the difference of aspects, universally scattering like external objects, those are the universals, it is said. Now, how is it a universal that eliminates others? That is what eliminates others, there, the distinctions clinging to that, because the nature is confused, appear as if clinging to things. That is, when arising only in different things from things different from it, it is known as having a different object. If the outsiders are different, then do distinctions not intervene in those things? How does it arise in those things? The proclaimers are those distinctions, assigning terms.
