Those who make distinctions are not like that; they think that those things that appear to serve only their own purpose, and treat things that can be distinguished as a whole. Because of their thoughts, they say that, and similarly, sound only by doing that thing indicates those things that are contrary to those that do not do that thing. Those who contemplate that one reality do not think that there is no difference in terms of different appearances and so on. If one follows the thought of an enlightened one, then the exclusion of others will also become a universal, but such enlightenment does not exist. Not only that, but for exclusion, for difference and non-difference, for oneness and universality, and so on, it is also impossible to understand. If asked, what is the basis for the arising of wisdom with an undifferentiated aspect? It is only said to be the exclusion of others. Because that exists in things, because there is no contradiction, and because the terminology with a sound basis also appears that way. Just as this wisdom appears, there is nothing at all that has become a thing called a universal. For example: Excluded things do not follow, and no other following appears. These excluded things do not follow each other, because there is no difference, so it would be inferred that there is no universal. Other differences from those things do not appear at all in such wisdom, and if they do not appear, how can one grasp or establish a name as self? Because there is one connection with those things, it will not become a universal either, because it has already been said that it would be too extreme. If it is said that one of the undifferentiated expressions and the cause of wisdom is a universal, but not all. Then, how does understanding enter through the door of others? If it is said that it is because it is related to it. Even if there are numbers and the substance of fruits, etc., it will be too extreme. If it is said that it is because it is not the nature of a universal. Then, isn't it being examined what the nature of a universal is? If there is a connection with it, understanding will arise, therefore, if it is said that it is a universal, then for that statement, there is a reason for explanation, because it is related to many substances, etc.

Because it can be known from anything, it is the nature of generality. If it were not so, it would not apply to other things, because there is no difference. If it were so, then the essence of substances, गुण (Sanskrit Devanagari: guṇa, Sanskrit Romanization: guna, meaning: quality), and generality would be confused. If it were so, then is it the case that merely the appearance of intelligence is the essence of knowing, therefore it exists, so it is generality? That is not the case. For example: How can what is not different from knowing follow other things? How can the essence of the knower be the generality of other things? Because it does not exist in those things. If, because of attachment to its essence, names are thus mistakenly applied, then what is the cause for such knowledge to arise in it? If it arises without a basis, then it would pervade everything. Or, if one knowing and non-different knowing, how can the essence of eliminating other knowing and arising from others be? Therefore, if it does not differentiate other knowing and eliminating other knowing, how can it become generality? Therefore, on things, holding the one self is a भ्रम (Sanskrit Devanagari: bhrama, Sanskrit Romanization: bhrama, meaning: illusion) of conceptual thought. Whether things are different or not different, because no self is the same, the conceptual thought that holds them in this way is an illusion. The mutual difference of having name and meaning is the seed of this (illusion). One should know the non-established things from the things that have non-different established things, and in order to know what will enter into completely abandoning them, therefore, the mutual difference as a distinction is the seed of the erroneous conceptual thought, which appears as one self. This conceptual thought, when holding it, appears in this way from the nature of its own habit. Furthermore, if it is said to be non-different because it returns from things that are not it, then is the result of different things non-different? The nature of things is like this: एक (Sanskrit Devanagari: eka, Sanskrit Romanization: eka, meaning: one) understanding, meaning, knowing, etc., in order to accomplish one meaning, some are different, but determined by nature, just like the senses, etc. Just like the senses, objects, appearances, and attention, or, the self, the senses, the mind, and the object, and their meeting, even if there is no generality that determines its essence, but the form of the form
