Because it does not arise from effort, the term "permanent" is uncertain. If someone says, "Because the black thing is not in the house, it indicates that it is outside," that is the non-existence of a valid means of cognition. Regarding this statement: That the black thing is not in the house, does not indicate that it is outside. From the meaning of the word "house," it is fully understood that it is outside. The statement "the black thing is not in the house" is understood to mean that the black thing is outside precisely because of the usage of the word "house," and not from the word "not." If it were not in both the house and outside, then one would simply say "it is not." Therefore, the meaning understood from the word "outside" is not another non-existence of a valid means of cognition. From the non-establishment of the opposing side, one speaks of the establishment of one's own side. Wherever the Samkhyas want to establish their own side by negating the other's side, this way of avoiding faults should also be understood as an avoidance. The inference for oneself has been definitely pointed out. From the Compendium on Valid Cognition, the inference for oneself, which is the second chapter. The inference for others is, that which clearly elucidates the meaning seen by oneself. Just as from the sign with its three aspects arises the knowledge of the sign-possessor, so too, wanting to generate in others the knowledge of the sign-possessor, the statement of the sign with its three aspects is the inference for others, because one infers the result from the cause. Here too, if one does not speak of any of the aspects, one will be expressing something incomplete. If one shows what is to be inferred, one should make a proposition. If someone asks, how is the statement of the inference for others in the treatises on logic? One should ask them that very question. We, regard the showing of what is to be inferred, as the locus of the meaning of the sign. Among the limbs, we do not regard the showing of what is to be inferred as the proof itself, because it generates doubt. However, because it shows the locus for the meaning of the sign, it should be established by that. That is, having its own nature and essence, different from itself and what is desired. What is called "only its own nature" is the nature to be established, and not the nature that establishes from what is already established. Similarly,

And it is said that the unestablished sign (rTags ma grub pa) and similar examples are also completely abandoned, and they should not be said to be suitable for establishing their own nature. The phrase "self and desired change" refers to the commitment based on one's own treatise. That is, it is not refuted. Direct perception, inference, and trustworthy fame are self-established. For the subject specifically designated by the dharma that one wishes to establish, the direct perception, inference, scripture, and fame that contradict the dharma to be established are those that have not been refuted by other dharmas. In this way, it is shown that the dharma to be established is without fault. If it is not like that, then it is similar, for example, sound is inaudible. A pot is permanent. Like saying "the meaning of what is to be measured by valid cognition is not established," it contradicts the mere commitment. Moreover, because of any uncommon reason, inference does not exist, and it combines the meaning that contradicts the fame of sound, such as saying "the one with a rabbit is not the moon, because it exists." Those only indicate the way to refute the self-nature of the dharma. Through this aspect, it should also be understood that it also indicates the self-nature of refuting the difference between the dharma and the subject, just like this, for example, a part is not different from a limb, because the difference between the height and the low of the scale is not taken. Limbs and parts are not other, because it would become a fault of being non-perception. Substance does not exist, because the substance of the substances of qualities would become a fault of being non-substance. The difference in the nature of the two, for example, saying that all spoken meanings are false. Although there is speaking, in the case of seeing that the spoken and the nature of speaking will become false, then both his speaking nature and falsity will be completely refuted. That is, the nature of both is refuted. If it is not the refutation of the falsity of the nature of speaking, then it is the refutation of the difference between the two. Logicians say that for the phrase "show what is to be established," it is done in meaning without being established. Because the established is spoken, it only indicates the reason for dispelling what has already been established.
