"Now" means "to reach the other shore." What is used to reach it? The ocean of samsara. Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas also reach the other shore of the ocean of samsara, so the term "king" is used to distinguish them. Like this, having completed the six perfections, one attains the state of Buddhahood, so you should also complete these perfections and become a Buddha. Similarly, there are also householders who possess qualities such as generosity, so in order to show their other virtuous deeds, it is said, "The lineage that honors father and mother is Brahma," and so on. Among them, the phrase "the lineage that honors father and mother" shows that this lineage is free from harm caused by humans and non-humans. And "being with Brahma" shows that this lineage is blessed by the gods. "Being with the teacher" shows that it is blessed by the special qualities of the guru. Furthermore, in order to show the benefits of this life and the next, it is said, "Worship them," and so on. Worshipping them is worshipping them. Worshipping father and mother, this life will become true, and the next life will also be reborn in heaven. Therefore, those who live at home should strive to honor their parents. Because it is difficult for those who live at home to always maintain celibacy, in order to include the celibacy of one day, it is said, in order to show the eight limbs of the uposatha, "non-harming," and so on. Among them, non-harming is not killing. Stealing is taking what is not given. Sexual misconduct is engaging in inverted acts through the paths of urine, feces, and the mouth. Lying is speaking falsely. Alcohol is brewed alcohol and mixed alcohol. Untimely food is eating edible things after noon. High and wide beds are those that exceed the size of beds and low chairs. Singing and dancing are merely worldly customs. Using incense and garlands is prohibited for the sake of seeking pleasure, not for healing the diseases of the sick. These eight are the limbs of the uposatha. And to which limb are these a part?

It has become so. Are there any other precepts besides this? There are no others, but it is called the general limb, just like the fifth limb later on. Then, are these limbs themselves following the precepts of the Arhats? Because it is said like this: Arhat The precepts are followed by those who have these eight limbs. (If it is said like this) Then the first limb says that I follow the precepts of those noble Arhats, following and so on will appear? Here, the precepts of the Arhats are the limbs, and the one who follows the precepts of the Arhats appears to be a person. If so, here the support shows firmness, just like saying that crows are calling, there is no fault. Now, fasting, enjoying the body of the gods, pleasing the mind. Etc., this shows the Vipaka fruit of the fasting precepts. It is said like this: The fasting precepts of one day and one night will be born in the six heavens of the desire realm as desired. Giving to men and women, giving to men and women, not to others, such as hermaphrodites, etc., because they will not generate precepts. Giving is giving. For those householders, due to attachment to evil deeds, stinginess and so on will arise, and those are also the cause of evil destinies, so to avoid those, stinginess and so on are mentioned. Among them, stinginess is not in accordance with giving, clinging to one's own perfection. Cunning is a dishonest mind, because of this, one's own thoughts are extremely unstable. Illusion is deceiving others, because of this, others will not know his thoughts and find an opportunity, but will confuse others. Attachment is attachment to oneself and attachment to enjoyment. Laziness is a dharma that does not accord with diligence, that is, laziness. Conceit is the arrogance that arises from thinking that one has obtained what one has not obtained, which should be obtained. Lust is attachment to sexual intercourse. Hatred is

Being utterly tormented towards all sentient beings. These eight dharmas, along with the five such as pride in lineage, and the thirteen non-virtuous dharmas, should be regarded as enemies. Do not associate with them, this is what is to be said. Among them, pride is when these dharmas cause the mind to be extremely elevated, like being irrigated, making it impossible to practice dharma and non-dharma. Therefore, pride is said to be the mind attached to one's own dharma being completely fixated. That is, due to individual desires for one's own dharma, the mind is completely fixated and exhausted on that alone, making it impossible to practice other dharma or non-dharma, this is what is to be said. For householders, there are also things to be done with caution, and wishing to establish these here, it is said, "Caution is the source of nectar," and so on. Caution is the support of the nectar of nirvana, this is its meaning. Negligence is the source of death. How is it known? Because the Thubpa (Shakyamuni Buddha) has taught. This is to say that because the Tathagata has taught: Caution is the source of nectar, negligence is the source of death. The cautious do not die, the negligent always die. Because that verse was taught. Among them, caution is the practice of virtuous dharma. The opposite should be known as negligence. Therefore, for you to increase virtuous dharma, this is to say that because caution has such great benefits, therefore, for you to increase virtuous dharma, you should always be cautious, and do not abandon the habituation to virtuous dharma, this is its meaning. Or, if you were to do something for me, why didn't you say so from the beginning? If you think, "I have already been negligent before, what is the use of caution?" Therefore, it is said, "Whoever was negligent before," and so on. That is, whoever was negligent before, if later relies on caution, that is very beautiful, like the moon separated from the clouds, it is said. Have you seen such a sentient being?
