Ba. Immaculate, attaining such a state as Nirvana, and completely attaining it, is the concluding remark. Not aging, not dying, etc., are praises of the qualities of Nirvana itself. Because there is no decay in it, it does not age. Because it does not change into death, it does not die. Because it is inexhaustible, it does not perish. The remainder is to distinguish it from the Nirvana of non-Buddhists, so it is said that the four great elements, the sun, and the moon do not exist. Now, in order to show which dharmas, when manifested, will lead to the attainment of Nirvana, mindfulness and so on are mentioned. Among these, mindfulness is not forgetting the object. Discrimination of dharmas is the wisdom that is in it. Diligence is the enthusiasm that is in it. Joy is the mental ease that is in that object. Pliancy is the fitness of body and mind. Samadhi is the one-pointedness of mind. Equanimity is the state in which the mind and mental events are at rest and spontaneously accomplished. These seven dharmas are called the limbs of enlightenment because they have become limbs of the undefiled wisdom of enlightenment, meaning that they are retinues. "Excellent assembly" means that it is the cause of virtue. "Without wisdom," etc., shows that these other two dharmas, namely, when meditation and wisdom are manifested, Nirvana can be attained, and when these two are combined, Nirvana can be attained, and these two are accomplished by each other's power. Without wisdom, there is no meditation. That is to say, if one does not know how to cultivate meditation well, then it is considered here that one is without wisdom, because meditation is not accomplished for him. Without meditation, there is also no wisdom, meaning that without meditation, there is no wisdom that can know things as they are, because by placing the mind in equipoise, one knows things as they really are. Whoever has both of these should be known as like the black marks of samsara. Completely

On the other hand, for those who do not have innate wisdom, meditation will not be accomplished. Without meditation, the wisdom that arises from practice will not be accomplished either. For those who have both wisdom and meditation, their cycle of rebirth is like a mill wheel, it should be understood in this way. Because they are able to quickly transcend. Now, in order to attain Nirvana, these things become obstacles, one should contemplate the places that should not be contemplated. In order to avoid these, the 'unanswered questions' and so on are mentioned. What are the fourteen unanswered questions spoken by the Thus-gone One? They are as follows: The world is permanent; the world is impermanent; it is both permanent and impermanent; it is neither permanent nor impermanent; the world has an end; the world has no end; it both has an end and has no end; it neither has an end nor has no end; the Thus-gone One exists after death; the Thus-gone One does not exist after death; the Thus-gone One both exists and does not exist after death; the Thus-gone One neither exists nor does not exist after death; life and body are the same; life and body are different. These fourteen questions, if asked, should not be answered, therefore they are called 'unanswered questions'. This shows that these questions are to be set aside. These places are not to be contemplated. Why is that? Because 'it makes the mind...' and so on are mentioned. That is to say, if contemplating what can obtain benefit or happiness, that is what should be contemplated. But, contemplating these questions does not make the mind peaceful, so it should not be contemplated. Thus, having explained the places of non-contemplation that should be completely avoided, if one contemplates what can generate things that are in accordance with the aspects of enlightenment, and can make the mind abide in happiness? From 'ignorance arises action' and so on, the twelve links of dependent origination are revealed. The meaning of these should be understood by following the sutras. The sutra is this:

That is, conditioned by ignorance arises karma-formation. Conditioned by karma-formation arises consciousness. Conditioned by consciousness arise name and form. Conditioned by name and form arise the six sense sources. Conditioned by the six sense sources arises contact. Conditioned by contact arises feeling. Conditioned by feeling arises craving. Conditioned by craving arises grasping. Conditioned by grasping arises becoming. Conditioned by becoming arises birth. Conditioned by birth arise aging and death, sorrow and lamentation, uttering cries, suffering and displeasure, and disturbances, etc. In this way, this great mass of suffering will arise. Having explained it in accordance with the law, and then in accordance with the reversal of the law, when birth ceases, all of this will cease. It is said that when birth ceases, aging and death, sorrow and lamentation, and other dharmas will cease. In this way, this great mass of suffering will cease. When birth ceases, becoming ceases, and when ignorance ceases, karma-formation ceases. What is ignorance? It is explained in the sutra itself as not knowing the limits of the past, etc. Here, in brief, not knowing the truths is truly ignorance. What is called not knowing should be understood as the opposite of knowing. The actions of a child who possesses this ignorance, virtuous, non-virtuous, and unwavering, are the karma-formations conditioned by ignorance. In the sutra, it is said that there are bodily karma-formations, verbal karma-formations, and mental karma-formations. Although it is said in this way, here it should be understood that only the actions of body, speech, and mind are mentioned. The mind that is imbued with the seed of that action is the consciousness conditioned by karma-formation. In the sutra, from the perspective of the fruit arising from the cause, it is said that there are six aggregates of consciousness, such as, "O venerable one, your senses are very clear." Similarly, the consciousness of maturation does not show its own nature by its subtlety, but shows the fruit.
