One should not fall into the fault of arrogance due to giving, and even if a small thing is given, one should not despise the giver, and the giver should also keep a loving heart close. Hopefully, this benefactor will perfect the object of merit arising from this giving, and the stain of this person's stinginess and jealousy will be lessened, and this person, having vowed to be happy to do good, will not regress, and those who rejoice or help him will also turn to good deeds. If they dedicate these to the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, they will become companions of those who enter to benefit the world. However, if one dedicates to the assembly of liberation or the perfection of existence, even so, one should not think that this person has done me a favor by helping me, but should accept it. After accepting it, one should enjoy it as the giver has dedicated it, and should not accumulate it, nor should one waste it. Nor should one give to non-vessels. Thus, seeking, accepting, and enjoying, thereby purifying everything, this is pure livelihood. Seeking and accepting to accomplish livelihood, and applying it to benefit, acting with reason, adorned with purity, the noble ones say that this is pure livelihood. The so-called learning of the precepts that have been properly received means abiding in the precepts of discipline after properly receiving them. Moreover, with reverence for the teachings of the Tathagata, truly seeing that the meaning of the precepts is meaningful, and at all times and places, obtaining ten kinds of excellent perfections of the holy Dharma from ten kinds of benefits, and truly contemplating each benefit and desiring to learn, or fearing transgressions, not distinguishing between heavy and light transgressions, and guarding against both gross and subtle transgressions, with reverence for the precepts or considering the precepts to be happiness, this is learning the precepts that have been properly received. Whatever precepts are established in the Sugata's teachings, guarding these can be free from suffering.

Happiness arises from purification and counteraction. Well-guarded by the vows of individual liberation. One's own resources and environment are perfectly complete. Even small faults are regarded as great offenses. The actions of body, speech, and mind are completely pure. Living without flattery is truly pure living. Delighting in learning, including the basis of training. Whatever is slightly incompatible with the object of training. Clearly and completely abandoning it. It is said in the sutras that a destroyer of discipline is an evil friend. That is the source of all ruin, such as lack of faith, lack of shame, lack of embarrassment, laziness, perverted wisdom, not guarding the doors of the senses, being full of food, not knowing the measure of food, not being diligent in sleeping during the upper and lower parts of the night, remembering past experiences of conversation, speech, joy, and play, not being diligent in virtuous Dharma, not respecting and not cherishing elder monks, not thinking properly, speaking harsh words, being without patience, being extremely fond of work, speech, and gatherings, associating with householders, repeatedly looking at women, anger, holding grudges, and so on. All these afflictions are also destroyers of discipline. Abiding in the destroyer of discipline, one will not realize the perfection of discipline, or one will completely lose it. Therefore, in order to completely protect discipline, one should rely on its antidote, such as virtuous friends. The cause of discipline is said to be guarding the senses. By that perfection, one will possess immaculate discipline. Therefore, one should focus on the nature of listening and contemplate it. Protect one's own senses from wandering into external objects. Therefore, it should be protected, that is, abandoning what becomes the cause of sin, grasping its characteristics, remembering its state, focusing on its form, abandoning subsequent thoughts, seeing the faults of the object, and from seeing those faults, extending the body in eight parts and contemplating suffering, one should abandon attachment to external objects.

Thinking of touching the foundation and walls of houses, and suppressing and clinging to the means of livelihood like fodder, turn away from them, abandon improper attention, and do not be too attached to various worldly things. So what ritual should be used to do this? It should be abandoned by relying on the antidote. With complete mindfulness in the heart, observe from all aspects, and when entering objects such as form, protect with firm mindfulness, because in this way sinful non-virtuous dharmas will meet and abide with the virtuous mind. Like a cow, completely cut off the mind of attachment to the black side, regard ugly and pleasant appearances as thorns, know the nature of the object, seek the faults of desire, especially tend to renunciation, the heart likes the reason for meditation, the heart puts down the reason for meditation, strive to practice virtue, strive to be diligent through continuous efforts, completely abandon those who have not guarded their senses, rely on those who have guarded their senses, and abandon them because they are afraid of not keeping the precepts. It is better to stab the eyes with a burning hot iron hook, do not look at the appearances that lead you to the path of evil with greed and hatred. It is better to fill the ears with burning molten iron, do not listen to the songs of hunters that increase carelessness, greed and arrogance, because listening to those voices that are beneficial to oneself. It is better to shave the nose with a sharp razor, rather get leprosy, than increase the dirt and enemies that cause oneself to increase various sufferings. It is better to cut off the tongue with a burning flame sword, do not be greedy for taste, and create sins that lead to the suffering of reincarnation. The wise would rather have their own bodies cut off and destroyed by the sharp knives and axes of enemies than to suffer from greed for various tactile sensations and eventually fall into hell. Therefore, if you do not restrain your mind from doing whatever you want, you will generate sins that cause boundless suffering, etc., (so you must) guard your senses.
