It is said, "The place of no-thingness," etc. As it is said in the sutra, 'Monks, this body is not yours alone, nor is it another's. This is the true knowledge of one's own nature.' Even after the things to be done are completely finished, since the action of wanting to manifest in accordance with habit and conformity enters, action is bound to occur, and mindfulness is placed close to focusing on the action. By focusing on conformity, one should think about this, which is the very knowledge of one's own field of activity. Among these actions that need to be accomplished with mindfulness, whatever needs to be accomplished at whatever time should be accomplished as it is at that time. This is the very knowledge of non-confusion. As it is said in the sutra, 'How does a monk know the time?' etc. In this way, through correct mindfulness and so on, the actions of body, speech, and mind become extremely pure, which can only be achieved through the practice of samadhi. When the medium faults of body and speech, and the subtle afflictions arising from the mind are pacified, like fine gold washed of dust, only the remaining virtuous thoughts remain. This is what is obtained from the manifestation of samadhi, which is called gathering the mind and abiding. As it is said in the Sutra of Wiping the Dust, 'Abiding well on the correct sign, the mind that is equal and subdues agitation and sinking, is in a state of equanimity, peace, and holding. On that mind, one should equally maintain effort. Just as gold dust washed of dirt, when placed on an anvil and wanting to melt it, the power of the fire should be equal, sharp, and small, maintaining a state of equanimity, and controlling the heat as before.' One should contemplate the benefits of the yogi's distraction on equal placement. Obtaining the samadhi of a yogi is without fault, and when relying on the joy and happiness arising from other faultless samadhis, one will experience a pleasing joy that transcends humanity. As it is said in the sutra, 'A monk who enters an empty house obtains a joy that transcends humanity.' Similarly, for this very body, the joy and happiness arising from solitude

And, through completely practicing meditative concentration, making the mind soft and workable, and free from obscuring defilements, one can easily see the nature of the aggregates, elements, and sense bases. Therefore, the Blessed One taught the monks that they should practice meditative concentration, cultivate it extensively, maintain mindfulness, stay away from evil, correctly abide within, equally abide in yoga, and pacify the mind within. Relying on meditative concentration, one can obtain the five supernormal cognitions, as well as various special qualities. As it is said in the scriptures: "Thus, the mind that abides in equanimity, through manifesting the rituals of magical powers, can control the mind, thereby experiencing immeasurable miraculous transformations." Therefore, one who has attained meditative concentration, without losing it before attaining the state of no more learning, and passes away, can truly obtain the complete meditative concentrations of the form realm and the formless realm. As it is said in the "Generation Stage": "Through the near practice of meditative concentration, one can obtain the complete results of the lord of the gods of karma accumulated by near practice, as well as the wheel-turning king and others." And as it is said in the scriptures: "Monks, I became the lord of the gods, Indra, thirty-six eons ago, let alone a king of the Kshatriya caste who has been crowned." Therefore, in order to accomplish meditative concentration, the mind should be diligent, observing its true qualities, the qualities are pure, the activities are accomplished, and the mind is filled with joy. What is called meditative concentration is that, in order to eliminate sinking, timidity, distraction, and inequality, the mind and mental factors are focused on one object, so it is called meditative concentration; or it is said that the mind and mental factors are correctly focused on one object, so it is meditative concentration; or it is said that because it is non-inverted, abiding in this meditative concentration, one can generate complete and excellent wisdom and insight, so it is meditative concentration. That is, with a completely pure mind, with the peaceful qualities of abiding on one object, one diligently and without distraction abides; or, with the wind of nearby afflictions.
