It's like milk. Therefore, know how it exists. Just as there is no self and no life, so too are earth and so on, and to show this, it is said that "the three elements are not earth" and so on. In short, this earth is not the three elements, because it is not its own nature. This earth is also not the three elements, just as before. This earth is also not the three elements. Without it, that is, without the three elements. Just as earth is, so are the remaining three. The word "is" means "therefore," because that is the reason. To prove that each of the elements, such as earth, has no self-nature, the word "what" is spoken, because without the three there is no each, and without one there are no three, which is a redundant word. The word "if" means "if," if even without the three there is no each, and without one there are no three, then earth and so on do not exist independently. Each independently, that is, one's own nature, is a synonym. Non-existence is non-being, that is, the gathering of things that exist in their own nature is mixture, which is what is said. Or, each independently, that is, existing separately in their own nature. Why not? Why is that not? Moving is wind. Obstruction is hardness, that is, the earth element. Gathering is the nature of adhesion, that is, the water element. Without them, each of water, wind, and earth is the same. Or, because this fire cannot be seen without wood. If there is no self-nature separately, then how do you think that the remaining three are self-nature, that they do not mix with each other, and that they exist separately in their own nature? Therefore, it should be regarded as similar. If you think there is any reason here? The remainder states the reason, the three refer to the remainder other than fire. Depending on the cause and arising from the place is birth. Dissimilar dharma is dissimilarity. The word "also" means "because." That is, because of the cause of consciousness, name and form, where form

The so-called "arising" refers to the four great elements and those things that have the four great elements as their cause. If fire were to exist separately as its own entity, then only three would arise together, which would contradict the law of dependent origination, and that would not be acceptable. Or, there is another fault, which is just extra words, because the word "also" serves the purpose of جمع. Whether they exist separately or not, mutual dependence is also a fault, which will be explained later. If it is said that there will be such a fault, that is, if one great element exists, then the rest also exist, if it is admitted that they exist in one place, then it is unreasonable to become other, and that would become admitting that they exist in one place. Even if it becomes like that, what fault is there? "Those that are not mixed do not reside in one place." and so on, it is said that those that are mixed will lose their individual entities, just like honey, butter, milk, and water. The characteristics of the great elements are also not acceptable, which will be explained later, most of which is redundant. So, how are the characteristics declared? "Characteristics are all conventionally spoken." It is said that in the conventional world, it is nominally established, and this is said in terms of the ultimate truth, so there is no fault. This is the way to show that there are no great elements, what is the method of declaration, and the same is true for color and so on. Because the great elements have just been negated, dependence has also been negated, but for the sake of clarity, it is explained here again, color is form. It is said in this way, and it is also intended to mix these together. "The finest dust is eight substances." It is said like this. Therefore, the reasoning is the same for establishing that those also do not exist like the great elements. Thus, after showing that the great elements and those things that have changed from the great elements do not exist, now starting from "eye" and up to "name" and "name-holder", the reasoning is the same for general non-form phenomena, which is indicated by the word "thus". The ear, etc., represented by the eye, the sound, etc., represented by the form, and the shape of the eye.
