Those who desire virtue should not do it. From the Hearer Vehicle, the aspiration of the Bodhisattva, and the practice of dedication are not explained. How can one become a Bodhisattva? For the Bodhi of the Bodhisattva, blessings were not taught by the Buddha. Regarding this meaning, besides the Victorious One, who else is a greater authority? The blessings of the Noble One's truth, and the path that is in harmony with Bodhi, how does it surpass the common Hearer Vehicle in terms of the result of Buddhahood? The meaning of abiding in the practice of Bodhi, is not taught in the Sutra Pitaka. Because it is taught in the Great Vehicle, therefore, the wise ones should uphold it. Just like grammarians, teaching the reading of the alphabet, similarly, the Buddha teaches the Dharma to those to be tamed, according to their capacity to endure. To some, the Dharma is taught to turn away from sin. To some, it is for accomplishing merit. Some rely on both, and some do not rely on either. The profound and hidden is frightening, the essence of emptiness and compassion, for some Bodhi practitioners. Thus, the wise ones, regarding the Great Vehicle, should exhaust anger, and for the sake of accomplishing perfect Bodhi, should especially rejoice. In the Great Vehicle, especially rejoice, and by practicing what is taught therein, one will surely attain unsurpassed Bodhi, and all happiness will also be accomplished incidentally. There, the Dharma of generosity, discipline, and patience are especially excellent. For householders, the essence of compassion is taught, and one should cultivate familiarity with it. However, because the world is unruly, if it is difficult to practice the Dharma's kingdom, therefore, for the sake of Dharma and fame, you should obtain ordination. This is the fourth chapter, showing the conduct of the king, from the Ratnavali (Precious Garland). Then, one who has gone forth (ordained), should first show great respect in learning. The Pratimoksha (individual liberation) vows, along with the Vinaya (discipline), and should strive to listen much and ascertain the meaning. Then, knowing the minor faults, one should abandon the roots of faults. The fifty-seven proclaimed rules, one should diligently and definitely examine. Anger is the disturbance of the mind, and in connection with it, holding grudges. Concealing is concealing sins, attachment is clinging to sins. Deceit is extreme deception, pretense is a crooked mind-stream, jealousy is being tormented by others' qualities, and stinginess is not giving.
