Shamefaced are all the faces. The words widely spread have become unspeakable on the path. In reality, elsewhere, all the dharmas are near him. Some improper wisdom has not transformed. Having seen the prince, the lord of men, like a god, Other matters also are on the king's path. With many offerings and respect as the prelude, neither women, Nor men, their eyes were satisfied. The forehead or eyebrows, and the face or eyes, The body or hands, and the gait or feet, Whoever saw any part of him there, That person was bound by his eyes. The eyebrows together with the urna, the eyes wide, The body beautiful, the hands possessing a net of merit. The mendicant's attire, suitable for ruling the earth, Having seen it, the prosperity of Rajagriha was shaken. Then, from outside the house, a crowd of people spreading prosperity, With the appearance of a Magadhan house, the artisans, Were able to see, and asked the reason for it, Then, the people said this to this man. Supreme wisdom or the splendor of the earth, Will be obtained, the Brahmins said. The one who has gone forth, people will surely see, This is the son of the lord of the Shakyas. Then, having heard the meaning, the mind clung and became attached, The king said to that man: "Where has he gone?" Please know it truly. Then, "I will do that," the man followed after him. The unmoving eyes, looking as far as the yoke, The speech completely even, possessing a deep gait. The wavering mind and bodies were firmly controlled, That supreme mendicant also went for alms. How to carry the alms in an appropriate manner, Going to a secluded place where heavy rain was falling, There, having manifestly requested with proper wisdom, He climbed the mountain that holds the earth—Mount Pandava. On that mountain, hidden by the Rodha forest, Filled with the sound of peacocks, in a hut of leaves, Like the young sun rising on the mountain of dawn, The crimson robes made the sun of the sun more beautiful. There, the king's retinue saw him, The artisans spoke these words to the king.

Having heard this, that king surpassed even many offering-givers, There, he became even more diligent by following the footsteps of the recluse. At the summit of the excellent Kyaseng (སྐྱ་བསེང་) Mountain, at Kyasengna (སྐྱ་བསེང་ན་), With diligence equal to the mountain, and a body like the mountain. Possessing the gait of a lion among men, holding a diadem, He ascended like a lion shaking its mane. Then, upon its summit, at the very peak, The Bodhisattva, the Lord of Peace, was nearly tranquil, Like a rabbit in the moon, emerging from the midst of clouds, He was seen sitting in the lotus position, utterly beautiful. With form and perfect qualities, and nearly tranquil, Like an emanation of Dharma, dwelling nearby, Filled with wonder, the greatly devoted king, Was near to the self-born one, like Indra approaching. With reason, the supreme of those with reason and knowledge, Having gone to him, who was of like temperament, he inquired, He himself, with equanimity and peace, did not govern, His mind dwelling in its natural state, he spoke of being without illness. Then, near the clean stone wall, resembling an elephant's ear, The king sat upright and steadfast, Having sat down close by, in accordance with him, Wishing to understand his intention, he spoke thus: Having come gradually and thoroughly examined, Your lineage is my greatest joy, Why do you wish to tell me your age? Having been born, please know these words of affection. Your lineage is like the sun, shining brightly, Your body is also youthful, clear and beautiful. Why is it that with your unobstructed wisdom, You are so fond of begging, and not of kingship? Your body is fit to be smeared with red sandalwood, Being wrapped in ochre robes is not fitting. These hands are fit to protect beings, It is not fitting to eat food given by others. Therefore, peaceful one, if you do not wish to rule the kingdom By the power of your father's love, If your wisdom cannot gradually endure, Then quickly enjoy half of my land. In that way, it will not harm your nature, And you will be praised for the glory that comes with time. Therefore, please have compassion for me, Together with the holy ones.
