The hunter said, "Desire-granting, the essence of desire! With this, the mind is subdued, and the deer are killed. If that one, equal to Indra, changes his mind because of this, Alas, please partake and consume that white food!" Then, he was exceedingly delighted, Took the bark garment from the forest, and discarded the clothes. The hunter himself completely assumed the body of a god, Took that white food, and the god departed. Then, the youth and the one who cared for the excellent horse, Were amazed at that departure. For the bark garment from the forest, Again, he quickly made many drawings. With a face full of tears, he stopped his longing, The great one, possessing steadfastness and fame, Like the king of stars covered by boundary clouds, Wearing mourning clothes, with sorrow, he departed from there. Then, thus, the Lord Did not desire the kingdom, When he went to the ascetic forest, appearing pale, That swift-goer gestured upwards with his hands, And fell to the ground, utterly dejected. Looking around, again with a sound, Hugging the praised horse with his hands, Then, repeating "Alas" again and again, Though the body had gone, the mind had not. Sometimes he deeply thought, sometimes he looked around, Sometimes he desperately scratched the ground, sometimes he fell. Then, as he went, suffering from respect, Uncontrollably, he did many things on the road. From the great poem called "The Deeds of the Buddha," the sixth chapter, "The Return of the Praised One." Then, longing weeping, with a face full of tears, Having turned back, in the forest, the desireless ascetic of longing, With the body that accomplishes all purposes, completely overpowering, Like an accomplished one, he fully attained that place of asceticism. Then, that prince, walking like the king of deer, Like a deer, fully entered that deer's dwelling, Though separated from all perfections, by the perfection of his body, He stole the eyes of all the inhabitants of the ascetic place. Like those burdened, with their heads half-bowed, Walking with a yoke in their hands, it was amazing. Like a universal monarch with his consort, Free.
