skad cig bdag 'gro bdag legs so. Just as the possessor of wealth spoke those words, the earth, the water deity, and the earth-holding mother, together with the raksasas, trembled for a long time as if terrified by a fierce force, because of the suffering of having their heads struck. After that, the mind of the lord of men (Sanskrit: ko ma la citta vṛttais tīṣṇa śastrair ba ca sā nṛpa sya, meaning: soft heart, sharp weapons, giving, of the king) with extremely sharp weapons, also with a sharp mind, began to cut off his own head. That difficult deed of the lord of men, from the celestial mansions in the sky, such as lotus seats, the gods, vidyadharas, with loving affection, with gentle words, and also with extremely sharp weapons, those with sharp minds, with sharp weapons, vigorously engaged in striking their own heads. They stopped, it was not a cruel act, the brahmins did not attain the state of raksasas. The king examined the suffering of his own body, the body of samsaric beings, the nature of affliction. Thousands and millions of sufferings of this kind (Sanskrit: laksair akrānta mityārtta taro babhūva, meaning: millions invaded, thus suffering, further arose). He thought, "By the merit I have gained from binding this body and giving away jewels, may I liberate from this intense suffering, may beings not fall into hell due to the ripening of merit." From the blood that gushed forth, he was greatly afflicted, saying, "I am overwhelmed." He thought, "From giving away jewels with this bound body, the merit
