Even an arrow placed on the string will not hit the target without the archer's effort. Therefore, like this, focusing on diligence, you are capable of realizing the state of Buddhahood, that is called ability. Those who have the desire to ascend to the state of peace, here their minds are not swayed by afflictions. Before you, there were people who had made vows and acted, studying for enlightenment. They, like horses on the path, gradually run with exhaustion. Like an antelope, abandoning all fear of exhaustion, in the future you will be the one who goes forward. Those with bodies of light, free from the surrounding darkness, hold gatherings, and repeatedly proclaim the Dharma to those who desire the words of the Dharma. Cutting off the bonds of afflictions, the wise ones with the wealth of virtues manifest offerings. You will be close to becoming a Buddha, and fortunate beings will see you. Then, the king, showing respect to the Bodhisattva, said: Emaho, seeing you so inclined towards the Dharma, I also have a desire for the Dharma arise. The Dharma is supreme for those who know the Dharma. Therefore, great wise one, please protect. Like a pure refuge, by this I will not go to the lower realms. The Bodhisattva said: If that is so, then great king, please listen. Having discrimination towards sin, and relying on virtue, this is the very truth of the Dharma. Those with famous minds say so. Here, clarifying the truth, both good and non-good are made clear. Whoever goes from the wrong path, even though they have eyes, they are blind. Thus, with the lamp of wisdom, the great path is illuminated. In order to exhaust afflictions, all actions should rely on virtue. Exhausting the power of the earth without knowing it, govern the land with the Dharma. If governing the land is with harsh punishments, people will always be weary. If, like a lotus root breaking, there is a white reputation, for you who illuminate the world, some have desires. Or wanting to obtain the manifested fruit, therefore hold the pure ornament of qualities. Then, the lord of men said: Emaho, this Dharma that you have taught touches my heart.

Having said this, he went away with great joy. Then that lord of elephants, Stirred up by the wound of his hoof, Oppressed by suffering, All his eyes closed. Then that lord of men, Made of sandalwood and other woods, Created a bird born of merit, And performed the cremation with fire. Then, like a friend, he went to the heavenly realm, The deer king, with a compassionate, stainless nature, Long grieved, and that lord of the earth, A sorrowful being, quickly went to the city. That deer, skilled in benefiting sentient beings, Died like a relative, like a doe-eyed one, Virtuous, free from deeds, the goddesses of the forest Shed tears without speaking. Then the earth shook, and the mountain peaks shook, Increased by the force of the wind, carried by the ocean waves, Mingled with swarms of bees, and fragrance pervaded, A multitude of Mandarava flowers fell from the sky. At the time of the passing of sorrow, the Blessed One, in the presence of the monks, declared this account of his birth. In that place, the deer herds, In the forest at that time, I was their lord, Extremely beautiful and good, A deer fawn was born. Before the Blessed One passed into Nirvana, the monks asked that beautiful and good ordained one. What deeds did the beautiful and good one do again? And for what reason did he attain the fruit of an Arhat after all the Shravakas, and enter Nirvana at the very beginning of the Blessed One? The Blessed One said: A Buddha named Light Protector appeared, Who reached the other shore of the ocean of knowledge, A monk named Sorrowless, The nephew of that protector. Easy to obtain, my supreme light, When the Sugata uncle was present, Sorrowless thought thus, And did not strive for liberation. Then Sorrowless went to another country, Away from other existences, The excellence of what Light Protector had done, He contemplated Nirvana. Then Sorrowless, dwelling under a tree, The monk Sorrowless, And those related to him, The sorrowful ones...

Na. Having made Sakya a supreme place, The goddess shed tears like pearls. Thinking, "It will happen today," The Nirvana of the Victorious One, without aspiration, The warm tears of the one who has gone beyond, Fell upon the body of the forest goddess. Why is this sky so clear and cloudless? It is because this water has fallen upon my body. Saying this and looking upwards, She saw the goddess weeping. Being utterly destitute, she asked another: "Why is the goddess so sorrowful?" She spoke with an indistinct voice: "How can I even speak to a monk?" The Great Sage, possessing compassion, wielding power, Burning the firewood of afflictions, abandoning benefit for beings, Such a Light Protector will pass into Nirvana, for beings, Giving sorrow, therefore I weep because of destitution. Not swayed by the pollen of argumentative words, Completely clarifying the path and the non-path, When the lamp of the Able One completely passes into Nirvana, Darkness covering the three realms will come. Having heard these words of the forest goddess, As if struck at the vital point by a sharp arrow, With eyes closed, she fell to the ground, Gradually rising, she began to wail. Having asked this desirous forest goddess: "Monk, please speak in detail, why is it so?" "The Bhagavan is my uncle, therefore, Why should I not be sad?" She also said this. The captivating flower of words, from the field of the Victorious One, Extremely small, grasped by selflessness, Stealing away the afflictions and decay of beings in the three realms, I, with my small intellect, have not obtained this fruit. My mind is settled in the household, Fearing that it obstructs the path of liberation, Why do you not pass into Nirvana, having completely destroyed the darkness with the light of the Tathagata's words? Then, that goddess said to that monk: "It is enough to be extremely sad, as long as the Buddha Bhagavan is near to passing into Nirvana, that is enough."
