Because the footprints are described in detail, the great wise one knows the thief. Because he causes to grow, therefore he is proclaimed to be named the one who knows the footprints. Then, at one time, the great being, because of the flowers, fruits, and roots coming near, asked the deceased mother and father: Is this short-lived father the same one, or is he someone else? The Brahmin said: Son, there is a royal city called Varanasi, that is my birthplace. The one who knows the footprints said: If you want to stay here, be born and meet, why doesn't father quickly go with me? In front of the wise ones, the obscure words in the scriptures, for the sake of listening, I also have the opportunity to watch again. The infantrymen with swords stayed especially in one direction. At the time of the audience assembly, they could be seen from near the palace of King Brahmadatta, and after informing the gatekeeper, they entered and offered victorious blessings to the king sitting on the lion throne, and then facing the king, they said: 'Footprint identifier, this son of mine, knows thieves by their footprints. For action and complete protection, therefore, please forgive him.' Then, that king, with a mind of wonder, looked at the footprint identifier and said: 'This one has a form with the light of cutting gold, a chest as broad as a lion, nails soft and shaded, a face surpassing the moon. Hair as black as bees, eyes large and white. For these, fully understood, how could this person's wisdom not change?' Having said that, the king gave great respect to the footprint identifier. Then, the Bodhisattva said: 'Because of suspicion of living in one house, having eyes that spread everywhere, who am I to point out? Lord of men, do not kill him.' After hearing the king's command to 'do so,' they came to the house of the footprint identifier. That is to say, like this, the place where the footprint identifier with great wisdom lived, those thieves who did not steal the property of others, but maintained their livelihood by means of encirclement and other methods, their actions were: the doors were not locked, the people slept peacefully, the property of the householder was taken away, and they lived in the houses at night. Then, at one time, King Brahmadatta, riding on the best chariot, together with the people, was talking with the horseman standing in front. Like the time when the crescent moon rises, he stayed very happily in the pleasure garden of the concubines, looking at his city full of intoxicated and joyful people, and was sure to appear outside. Some people, because of being drunk, fell asleep, and the horse's reins, tied with flowers, fell from the hair on one side of the shoulder.
