Regarding generosity, the distinction of its power is the generosity of flesh and blood. But it is not the generosity of life, as stated in the scriptures themselves. The difference between the medicine of gods and humans is that the medicines that can heal wounds can restore his body to its original state without suffering, as the text says. Because the text speaks of complete enjoyment. Please forgive the exhaustion suffered by the deity's own body. We have also been satisfied, as the text says. This is not salvation, because there is no other to be saved besides him. Thus, for the time being, this is the distinction of the four types of internal generosity. Therefore, in this way, the four causes of birth are arranged. Within these four causes, other natures are also included. In this way, other births will also be accomplished. For those who want to understand these, all methods have been shown. Now, regarding the generosity of external things, four other births will be shown. So, what is external generosity? It is divided into three: the giver is perfect, the receiver is perfect, and the object of generosity is perfect. Regarding these three perfections, in the birth story of the merchant, the perfection of the receiver refers to a solitary buddha who wanted to increase his merit and burn all the firewood of afflictions, came to his house for alms. The perfection of the object of generosity is also stated in the text, he said: I listen to his teachings and do as he does. Then he took good food and drink. The perfection of the giver is also stated in the text, bodhisattvas rely on their own merit and the power of virtue, and also know that generosity has no faults. Abandoning those who are unwilling to allocate property to their children and servants, but want to possess it alone, without hesitation in their hearts, the thought of wanting to give rise, and then left from hell, as the text says. Now, in the birth story of the King of Kosala, there are two perfections, namely the perfection of the giver and the perfection of the receiver.

The Um assembly and the lord of Kosala did not have a complete object of generosity. Therein, the perfection of the giver is also shown, as in the verse: Although endowed with righteousness, he is arrogant with mere wealth, satisfied by deeds, and living on medicine. Furthermore, with a gentle mind, he prostrates to him. These words express it. The perfection of the recipient is also explained there, as in the verse: Seeing four mendicants arriving for alms, subduing their senses, following the splendor of the mendicant. Saying four is to show that the place of generosity is the Sangha, therefore showing the perfection of the recipient. There is no complete object of generosity, and that is also shown there: Look at how this hot, rough, and unpalatable food can bring such great rewards. And in the Jataka tales, it is limited to one example, that is, when the recipient is shown to be slightly perfect, as in the verse: With reverence, he offered to the capable one who had exhausted all defilements. There is no complete object of generosity, it is a portion divided from food. There is also no complete giver, as in the verse: When acting as a servant girl. Offering with reverence means having reverence at that moment. Therefore, the result is small, that is, being reborn as a woman. Now, the complete object of generosity and the complete giver are both from the Jataka tale of "All Deliverance." The complete object of generosity refers to external objects, all forms belonging to the category of sentient and non-sentient beings, which are external objects of generosity. External generosity belonging to the category of sentient beings is giving precious elephants, and horses with ornaments, and so on. Non-sentient objects refer to giving chariots even if there are children, without regard for them. Giving sons and giving wives are special objects of generosity external to oneself. The special feature of the complete giver is shown at that time: For the sake of the world, I hold this body, external wealth.

What more needs to be said? All those like Śibi, even if they kill me or drive me away, I will not fail to give. Even if I exhaust my life in the hermitage. These are the words to explain. Furthermore, having become accustomed to delight in giving, because I have not learned to turn back, even my two extremely beloved sons, I said without hesitation that I would give them away. These words, and all the other explanations about the perfection of the giver of external things, should be combined. Now, the Jataka of the Merchant Subduer shows the perfection of the giver. That perfection is also shown therein, that even if wealth is exhausted, one does not turn back from giving, and even if Indra makes wealth not hateful, one is indifferent to it. Thus, for the time being, perfection is achieved through three things: the giver, the object of giving, and the receiver. The perfection of both the giver and the receiver lies in the receiver, not in the giver. The object of giving does not differentiate the giver. Giving belongs to the giver, not to the receiver. In this way, because everything is included, it will also be established that one accepts the giving of other, external material things. In order to show the perfection of the giver's giving pāramitā, it is shown in this way. Now, with regard to the giving of Dharma, in the Jataka of Agastya, it is shown that Indra gave an excellent gift and then returned well, which is explained therein: 'Well-spoken jewels, there is no value.' And all those other words. The giving of fearlessness is the best of men, steadfast and pure, the best of men endowed with the wealth of morality. It is shown there in two verses, and that is the giving of fearlessness. Therefore, these Jatakas are reasonable in order, and through the order of this sequence, the three will be shown. The teacher Hero did not arrange the Jatakas in order, but wrote them down and placed them there.
