Commentary on the Extensive Account of Birth Stories, Dharmakirti. Commentary on the Extensive Account of Birth Stories, Dharmakirti. In Sanskrit: Jataka-mala-tika. In Tibetan: Commentary on the Extensive Account of Birth Stories. Homage to the Bhagavan, Lord of Speech. The Sugata's excellent conduct is wondrous and immeasurable, Composed by the noble hero, a master of poetry. Although my intellect is weak, I will explain with reverence, For the sake of benefiting those of little wisdom, I compose diligently. This verse beginning with "Possessing Glory" is the condensed meaning of all the poetry that follows. That is, taking as the main subject the conduct of a Bodhisattva, the nature of the accumulation of merit and wisdom, I will compose this poetry. This is the condensed meaning of this verse. There are six perfections: generosity, discipline, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom. Among these perfections, the first three—generosity, discipline, and patience—are the accumulation of merit, as they are the cause of the wheel of samsara and the abundance of enjoyment. The two perfections of meditation and wisdom should be understood as the cause of liberation. The perfection of diligence relies on both sides. Whoever possesses glory is glorious, possessing excellent radiance. Glory, light, and blazing are synonyms. Here, the mention of glory refers to the result of the accumulation of merit, namely, the enjoyment of samsara and the possession of a complete retinue, which should be combined with "by this combination." "Auspicious, completely held by supreme qualities" means that qualities are both qualities and supreme, hence supreme qualities. Or, because they are good qualities, they are supreme qualities. Or, because they are the qualities of supreme beings. "Completely held" means that they are completely held by these. Since they are both supreme qualities and completely held, they are supreme qualities completely held. Their auspiciousness is why they are auspicious, completely held by supreme qualities. Qualities are those that benefit others,
