Just as the common cause for healing the suffering of thirst, so too is the Bodhisattva the common need of all sentient beings, for they are like shade trees and ponds. Thus, for the time being, these two verses, "There are delicious fruits" and "There is pure, sweet water," reveal the Bodhisattva's lament arising from his own suffering due to being banished. The phrase "Where can all kings be saved?" reveals the lament uttered after the Bodhisattva was exiled. The phrase "We are poor" arises from one's own suffering. "Gems" and so forth are from the perspective of worldly objects. "Much wealth and grain" and so forth are grasping at things that are likely to be near. What is a good and pleasant suburban garden? It is a good and pleasant suburban garden. "Gradually" refers to starting from the best of cities. This transcendence is the meaning of gradually, that is, transcending villages and cities. What is a forest of dense shade without gaps? It is a dense shade without gaps. What is it to wander completely and the direction is clear? It is to wander completely and the direction appears clear. The meaning of "The horse that pulls the chariot is not another" is just that. In the verse "On the road of countless yojanas," the meaning is that the horse was given. Why? Because he delights in giving. Therefore, all the excellent qualities of practice are mentioned here, that is, the verses such as "countless yojanas." There is no other than these, therefore it will not be accomplished. "On the road, that body" refers to the beggar who gave the horse, and it is shown right there. Countless yojanas refers to showing many times. "Even if there are no friends" means that there is no one else there to help. "Together with wife and children" refers to the benefit of others who seek benefit, that is, enduring one's own sorrow. "Not looking to the future" clearly indicates obtaining the cause for healing suffering. Like a horse, it is giving everything without exception. Those verses reveal the cause of delighting in giving.

It is so. The so-called "forest" is the forest of asceticism. "Also accustomed" means being extremely accustomed for a long time, that is, practicing constantly for a long time, and with respectful behavior. The holy ones are the Bodhisattvas, etc. Being accustomed to merits means being accustomed to benefiting others and making happiness. Whatever is done to whom, that is the power of his merit, not the merit of the doer. Why is that? Because benefiting all sentient beings and leading them to happiness seems impossible to accomplish. For example, although a Bodhisattva can benefit others and lead them to happiness, it is impossible to lead sentient beings born in hungry ghosts and hells to happiness. Also, like the moon that opens the white lotus, if the moon can make it open, why doesn't it make the lotus open? Because it depends on being viewed without distinction and becomes the cause of opening. To show that it is not the difference of one's own power, there is the verse "in the sea." The image of the stars is the image of the stars. The images of the stars adorned by it are especially beautiful, that is, the images of the stars that appear from the sea similar to the blooming of white lotuses. Because the white lotus is extremely pure, the image of the stars is especially beautiful, otherwise it is not. This only speaks of the opening of the white lotus, but this is said for the sake of the adornment of others. Like watching the scenery of moonlight, it means that seeing the image of the stars and the blooming of white lotuses in the sea is especially like watching the scenery. The so-called "cause" is only a name. The moon makes them open, which means that when the moon appears, they seem to open. If there is the ability to open, why doesn't it make the lotuses, etc. open? Likewise, I think if it is said to be the power of your king, then the deer kings, etc. are all equally abiding in all places, so it is your power. To those who speak pleasingly to each other, briefly speaking, the reason is that Madri Bodhisattva, to the Bodhisattva of lineage, speaks pleasingly
