This is the meaning of "what is needed." This verse, "hearing is ignorance," is spoken from the perspective of conforming to transcendental qualities. "Hearing dispels the darkness of ignorance" refers to the cause of the path of seeing; hearing is not the uncommon quality of the path of seeing, nor is it the antidote to abandoning ignorance. Hearing is a lamp. Hearing is the best of treasures, the cause of the wealth of the transcendental noble ones, their life and friends. Hearing is a weapon that destroys all sounds of delusion, because it eliminates all the habitual tendencies of the path of meditation. Hearing is: the best of friends, showing methods and instructions. This means that, especially by cultivating to abandon afflictions, without being shown by others, only by the fruit of hearing, one can show the method of accomplishing the path of meditation. Now, from the point of view of benefiting the law of seeing, the verse "even if impoverished" is spoken. Benefiting the law of seeing is also of two kinds: benefiting by averting poverty and benefiting by increasing merit. "Even if impoverished, one is an unchanging friend," this is to eliminate poverty such as bondage. For the disease of the mind, characterized by sorrow, hearing is medicine, because it eliminates sorrow. Hearing is an army, individually examining and taking correctly, becoming the cause of destroying the army of faults such as desire. This is because faults such as desire are suppressed by the power of individual examination, so destroying faults is the best of armies. Hearing is also the best of the treasures of fame and glory, because by abiding in hearing, one obtains excellent fame and glory. Now, in order to show that hearing has great benefits for speakers, the verses such as "meeting with the virtuous is the best of men" are spoken. In order to show that hearing benefits speakers, the four verses such as "meeting with the virtuous" are spoken. Among them, there are four kinds of becoming good speech: one's own side.

One becomes skilled in speech that establishes one's own position, skilled in speech that composes eloquent poetry, skilled in speech that teaches the Dharma, and knows the order of treatises. These four verses should be arranged in order. The verse "Meeting with the virtuous" is in terms of being skilled in speech that establishes one's own position. Because his words, when meeting with the virtuous, become like being born anew, because one with flawless limbs is able to accomplish what is desired. "The wise are delighted in the assembly," this is because the meaning of what is said and what is to be said is logically consistent. The opponent's debater himself is light, so the opponent's debater is light. They are like the sun, just as the sun overwhelms the rays of the moon and so on, they are skilled in speech that establishes their own position. By merely establishing one's own position, the light of the opponent's debater will be suppressed. "The competitors" refers to those who want to compete and debate with him. They will eliminate the fame and power of those people, because the competitors are unable to achieve their desired goals. "Eyes and complexion become very clear," this verse is in terms of becoming skilled in rhetoric. Eyes and complexion are eyes and complexion. Radiance and very clear is becoming radiant and very clear. Whoever has eyes and complexion that have become very clear, that is eyes and complexion that have become very clear. Eyes and complexion are very clear, and radiance is very clear, therefore very happy, that is, having become very happy. Or, eyes and complexion are eyes and complexion. Radiance itself is very clear, so radiance is very clear. Eyes and complexion are both radiance and very clear, so having become very clear. Because one is particularly satisfied, one is particularly happy, that is, having become very happy. What is it that has become very happy? It is the eyes and complexion that have become very clear. An unfamiliar person is someone who is not acquainted, that is, someone who has not been seen before. Pleasing by shaking the hand cymbals.
