Hope lies in life itself. The term "manifest divine glory" indicates that one feels joy upon seeing it. Because the spiritual friend also sees the superior, there is remaining merit. Because relatives also see the superior, divine glory is manifested. The phrase "freed from this poverty" refers to suffering and poverty in a desolate monastery. "Without compassion" means lacking compassion. "Without restraint" means being shameless, disregarding worldly opinions. "Not considering the future life" indicates focusing solely on oneself. Because one does not consider falling into lower realms, one does not consider one's own benefit. This indicates not considering what benefits the qualities of higher realms and definite goodness. Not considering one's own benefit and due to not considering the future life, it is said that the glory of a king is as unstable as lightning and is robbed of power. Alternatively, this explains the four causes of lacking compassion, etc.: the glory of a king is unstable and is robbed of power. Alternatively, the cause of not considering one's own benefit is that the glory of a king is unstable, thus being robbed of power. The other three are lacking compassion, lacking restraint, and not considering the future life, etc. It is shown by two verses, "The Lord of Death suddenly comes, he does not think of that," etc. The first half of the verse, "The Lord of Death suddenly comes, he does not think of that," shows the two causes of not considering the future life: the thought of not considering the future life does not change because one sees death approaching, and even knowing there is death, one does not know or has not heard of sin. The latter half of the verse shows the cause of lacking restraint: both causes are lacking restraint because there is no spiritual friend who shows benefit, or because one is bound by conceptual attachment and cannot be advised, or because one has become helpless. To show the cause of lacking compassion, it is mentioned, "having become the basis of disease," where "body" indicates impurity. The word "alone" indicates that due to being separated from a master, there is no self.
