The first (chapter) to be protected. With five verses, analyze in sequence, in order to accomplish the benefit of sentient beings of the three times, clearly observe and ascertain, that is: by giving up one's own body and truly protecting the tigress and her cubs, it is the present benefit of others. Showing to those who strive to benefit the world, these first three verses show the benefit of all future sentient beings. Clearly observing to generate perfection, when will the body alone be of benefit, etc., is to benefit others with the body in the past. Aspiration is the meaning of desire. In order to have fruit, one should also give up my body, because the aspiration thought by it has become the past, so accomplishing its aspiration is the meaning of past sentient beings, it is said. To attain the supreme enlightenment, the word "also" in this sentence shows that it is not another auxiliary word. Obtaining the supreme enlightenment is because of doing the work of benefiting others. The meaning of the summary of the verses such as not for competition is: in order to be related to the results of the visible Dharma, higher realms, and definite goodness, it shows that it is not done by me. Not for desiring heaven and achieving kingship, that is: most people in the world strive for good deeds in order to overcome others and to generate their own merits, but since it is not these two, it is said that it is not for competition, not for the sake of fame. These two show that they do not desire higher realms. Not for desiring heaven and achieving kingship, that is: these two show that they do not desire to be born as gods of higher realms, and to be born as people of special castes. I am not for obtaining supreme happiness, this sentence is the meaning of not seeking definite goodness. I am not for supreme happiness, that is, I have obtained the happiness of Nirvana, but I am not diligent in this either, it is said. Saying: in order to accomplish the benefit of others, that is, to say to accomplish the benefit of others, then what is the said accomplishment of the benefit of others?
