Saying, "He should be killed." Having said that, he took the sword from the attendant's hand, thinking that he must kill that excellent sage as if he were an enemy, and went. Then, the attendants asked those consorts where the king had gone. Seeing that the king was angry and had no peaceful expression, they were displeased in their hearts, and with the force of being flustered, they looked with wide eyes and stood up, joined their palms and bowed to that excellent sage, and with a slight smile like an autumn lotus blooming, they went to the king. Because the fire of anger was burning in his mind, even the beautiful, gentle, and respectful behavior of those consorts did not calm his mind. Those consorts were very confident and relaxed, but the king was very angry, his face changed, and his behavior became unsightly and harsh. Holding a weapon in his hand, he looked at that excellent sage with hateful eyes, and in order to dissuade him, he said, "This is the Bhagavan (bcom ldan 'das, भगवत्, bhagavat, Blessed One) who speaks of patience, please do not do such a terrible thing." The king's mind was very malicious, and he thought, "These people have already been seduced by him." Then he became even more angry, and with an unbearable force, his eyebrows trembled violently and he looked askance. Those consorts did not listen to his confident and gentle words, and the king looked angrily at the eunuchs guarding the consorts, turning his head, his earrings and headdress swaying, and looked at those consorts and said, "This one says he speaks of patience, But he does not accept practice. Like this, relying on women, This desire cannot be endured. In words he speaks one thing, in body he acts another, His mind is malicious, and in his heart he thinks differently. Who can pacify this one who is not pacified in the hermitage? With a deceptive manner, he pretends to be outwardly." Then, those consorts, because the king was angry and fierce, their hearts became harsh, and they could not dissuade him. They also knew that the king was very fierce and difficult to tame, and they were displeased and tormented by sorrow. The eunuchs also, frightened and scared, were driven away by confused hand gestures. They lowered their heads in shame, and felt sorrow for that excellent sage, and then scattered.

Then they left. This great ascetic, known for his taming and virtues, what will become of this angry king, so that we avoid any faults? Who knows who has entered the path and what they will do? The king has obtained kingship and fame, this one who can endure hardship, this body, and we who are without fault, will we not be killed all at once by the king? Thus, those consorts who were weeping and wailing dispersed and left, and after that, the king, to the upright sage, threatened him and, with the force of anger, drew his sword and went to strike himself. The great bodhisattva, even though he was reviled in this way, did not change and his steadfastness did not diminish, and seeing his natural conduct, the king was greatly frightened and said to him: Take the ajina and the staff. The pretense of majestic demeanor, even if it is perfected like the truth, look at me like one who can endure. Then, the bodhisattva, accustomed to patience, even though he was slandered and ridiculed, did not lose his steadfastness. The king's angry and fearsome behavior became repulsive, the splendor of taming behavior vanished, and he forgot the path of what is beneficial and harmful to himself, and was greatly amazed by this. He looked at him for a moment and, like compassion, comforted him with gentle words, and it is certain that he said these words: Like this, caused by a fate that is not cursed, beings will have such experiences, therefore I do not worry. I should give you the respect you deserve, and even if it is just a word, I should not do anything inappropriate, keep it in mind. Great king, those like you who work for the benefit of beings, entering the path of non-holy conduct, should not act with endurance, but should enter the path of discriminating observation. Even in the good aspects, one sees some things that are inappropriate, and some things that are bad seem to be good. If one does not analyze things with special reasons, one cannot understand the necessary meaning. After fully analyzing the necessary meaning, after fully understanding the appropriate and inappropriate actions, if one can enter the path of the teachings well, then one can accomplish the meaning of Dharma, politics, and happiness. These themselves will not cause beings to decline. Therefore, tame the extremely arrogant mind and strive to engage in reputable deeds.
