There were deer, spotted deer, srimara, wild yaks, elephants, baman, buffaloes, gazelles, fish-ku, wild boars, tigers, leopards, lions, wolves, bears, brown bears, and many other animals inhabiting the area. In a place where there were no human settlements, there was a deer, its color as bright as pure gold, its fur extremely soft, its body adorned with spots of various colors resembling precious sapphires, grease, and cat's-eye stones. Its eyes were long and bright, its horns and hooves as smooth and radiant as jewels, its appearance extremely beautiful, and it was said that it had become something like a walking treasure mine. Knowing that its body was vulnerable and that people had little compassion, it lived happily in the dense forest where there were no people. With its sharp mind, it skillfully avoided the places where hunters roamed, as well as traps, baits, nets, snares, ropes, and wooden contraptions. It taught the many deer that followed it like a teacher and parent, and became the master of the deer herd. Form and wisdom were perfectly complete, and actions were adorned with wisdom. Who would not make offerings to someone who wants to help oneself? After some time, that great being settled and lived in that dense forest. Near him, he heard the sound of a newly flooded river, its current raging, carrying away a person, who was crying and shouting. In order to break free from bondage, with compassion, he quickly ran and grabbed him. Now is not the time to delay, for exhausted and weary, even the shoulders cannot move. There is not the slightest bit of stinging or swelling to endure. Therefore, now is the time to run and come. Then, that Bodhisattva, with compassion, cried out with a voice like being struck in the heart. He spoke the words "Do not fear, do not fear," eliminating fear, displeasure, and fatigue, clearly and secretly praising the habit of a hundred years, and out of compassion, uttered human speech. Emerging from the dense forest, and from afar, seeing that person being carried away by the water, coming like sending a pleasing gift. Then, to save him, I did this. Even losing my own life, I did not mind. He was in the depths of the raging river, like a hero destroying enemy forces. Then, blocking his path with my body, I said to him, "Grab onto me." He listened in fear, and his limbs contracted in exhaustion. He climbed onto his back. The weight of that person pressed down on him, and the force of the raging river also pushed him, but with steadfast courage and strong effort, he reached the pleasing shore unharmed. Then, after he brought that person to the shore, extreme joy freed him from the pain of fatigue. My warmth dispelled his cold. After showing him the way, he said, "Go," and then released him. Then, that person, because of the help and friendship he had received, which no relative, friend, or loved one could have given, was greatly amazed, and his heart was filled with joy. His beautiful form also aroused wonder and respect, so he prostrated and spoke those sweet words to him: What you have done for me, even relatives, friends, even children, and those I love, could not do. My life is yours. For your sake, even if it is just a little, if needed, I would be very grateful to you. Therefore, please tell me what to do, please accept me. Then (the deer) respectfully said: Noble people never forget kindness, it is their nature. I see that beings are very changeable, and repaying kindness is now a great virtue. Therefore, what I want to teach you is that in order to remember the kindness others have done for you, you should not say to anyone: It was such a being who saved me from the water. My body has also become very attractive because it can be eaten as meat, and people's hearts are also very greedy, and there are many unrestrained people, so my merits and myself should also be well protected. People who are indifferent to friends will not have happiness anywhere. We are deer, and people are accustomed to cunning and hypocrisy, so please do not hold a grudge or be unhappy because I said these words. Furthermore, people who are proficient in evil doctrines, because they have done such deceptions, even people who are gentle by nature will have doubts. I say this also for your benefit. He listened and said: I will do so. Then he prostrated, circumambulated that great Bodhisattva, and returned to his home. At that time, there was a queen of a king in that country whose dreams were very accurate, and whatever wonderful dreams she saw would come true. One day, she fell asleep, and in a dawn dream, she saw a deer named Ruru, like a pile of jewels, sitting on a lion throne radiating light, surrounded by the king and his entourage, preaching the Dharma in clear and beautiful language. Then, she was very surprised by this dream, heard the sound of drums calling the king to rise, and after waking up, she came before the king with awe and joy at an appropriate opportunity. Her eyes widened with amazement, her beautiful cheeks trembled with joy, and she repeated the wonderful dream she had seen, foreshadowing the king of men like offering a gift. After telling the king about the auspicious dream, she said again: O God, therefore, please strive to find that good deer. That precious deer in the palace is like a star in the sky
