Flying into the center of the sky, which was as blue, clear, and beautiful as a spotless sword, following that beautiful form, making it seem as if the reflection was right beside him, he came before a great multitude of swans, and was filled with joy as soon as he saw them. At times, that swan king, out of compassion for others, would go to the king's place and teach the Dharma. That king would offer respectful offerings. Therefore, even the conduct of holy beings who have fallen into the animal realm cannot be imitated by those who are not holy beings, let alone those who dwell in the happy realms. Thus, sweet words are beneficial to both. The praise of the merit of speaking sweet words should also be applied in this way. In this way, by having a virtuous friend, even difficult tasks are accomplished. The praise of the qualities of a virtuous friend should also be spoken in this way. It should also be spoken about the previous connection of the venerable Ananda, that is, associating with the Bodhisattva, and practicing only love and great respect for a long time. It should be said in this way. The twenty-second chapter, the swan's birth story. Eighth fascicle. Noble beings, due to gratitude for favors bestowed and being accustomed to patience, even if not revered, will not diminish their affection for those who previously bestowed benefits. For example, when the Bhagavan was formerly a Bodhisattva, he was known as Sarvatraga Bodhi. While living at home, he extensively knew the order of places praised by the world, became skilled in various arts, and even after renouncing, he diligently strived to benefit the world, and was especially devoted to the scriptures of the Dharma, and thus attained the position of a teacher. He possessed the qualities of merit, vast knowledge, expertise in worldly customs, and diligence, so wherever he went, he was received by the wise, those who delighted in the wise, the ministers of kings, Brahmins, householders, and others.

Those with status and the ordained should respect and remember him. The qualities that blaze from the basis of merit are delighted by the blessings of diligent practice. Even enemies show extra respect in order to protect their own reputation. Then, that great being, in order to benefit the world, traveled around villages, cities, regions, towns, rural areas, and the palaces of kings, eventually reaching the edge of a king's territory. The king heard of his great power of virtue and, knowing that he had come from afar, was very pleased and arranged for his residence in a pleasant part of his garden. He gave him great hospitality, including welcomes, and kept him in his country, serving, respecting, honoring, and revering him in the manner of a student to a teacher. Wealth and qualities are perfectly complete; when a long-awaited guest comes to the house, those who rejoice in the virtuous become very happy and joyful. The Bodhisattva also showed him the path that would be beneficial with pleasing and melodious Dharma talks, so that he would be benefited day by day. For those who love the Dharma without reverence, if they speak words of love and benefit to others, what need is there to say for those who desire to benefit others and love virtue, like a clean vessel? Then, the ministers of that king and those skilled in skillful means, in the assembly, because the Bodhisattva Mahasattva was greatly respected and his qualities were perfectly complete, became jealous and unbearable. For those whose own qualities and fame are outstanding, who have the power to please beings, those who receive respect with artificial qualities, the fire of jealousy blazes without ceasing. They could not openly overwhelm him with the words of the scriptures, and they could not bear the king's reliance on the Dharma, so they used various means to make the king displeased with the Bodhisattva. One should not trust the wandering deity Bodhi too much. Do not doubt, this person is one who delights in the qualities of the gods and inclines towards the Dharma, he should be destroyed.
