He (referring to the Bodhisattva) was pleasing to the eyes of ordinary people, and without contradicting the Dharma, he was skilled in worldly affairs, so worldly people loved him like family. Family members are called family members, but they are not particularly happy. Outsiders are also called outsiders, but they are no different from family members. By examining faults and virtues, whether family or outsiders, in the world they are either respected or slandered. That great Bodhisattva, having been accustomed to renunciation in the past, deeply understood the suffering of living at home and the conflict with the Dharma. He recognized that the ascetic forest was a source of happiness, so his mind no longer clung to the comfort of home. After his parents passed away, he felt great sorrow. He gave away the countless possessions and wealth of his household to relatives, friends, monks, Brahmins, and the poor, as was appropriate, and then renounced the world. He gradually traveled through towns, villages, and palaces, and eventually settled in a forest near a city. Because he was accustomed to the merits of meditation, his senses were naturally calm, not arrogant, without craving for gain or despondency. He was gentle, majestic, spoke softly and clearly as appropriate, was skilled in distinguishing Dharma from non-Dharma, and was skilled in speaking words that pleased the ear and heart. He became famous there because of his good monastic conduct and virtuous behavior that pleased the noble. People of discernment also learned that he had renounced the world from a noble lineage, so worldly people showed him even greater respect. More than the qualities of lineage and appearance, inner qualities become more radiant, like the moonlight shining on fertile ground. Later, his father's friend learned that he had come there, so he came to him, praised his qualities, respectfully inquired about his health, and informed him that he was his father's friend. Then, he began to converse with him, speaking gently: 'At such a young age, disregarding lineage, you have chosen to renounce the world, this is truly... Venerable one...'

You have acted like someone unstable. Whether staying at home or going to a monastery, if you practice well, you will attain the Dharma. Having abandoned a beautiful and splendid home, why does your mind delight in the monastery? Relying on others, begging for sustenance, being scolded by people like a wicked person, wearing tattered clothes, separated from relatives and friends, abandoning your body in a remote place, like picking up a poor body. Seeing your situation, even the eyes of an enemy would be filled with tears, how could one not be overcome by sorrow? Therefore, return to your father's house, let your learned knowledge be put to use. O excellent son, settle down there and accomplish the Dharma and the desires of your heart. There is also this saying in the world: Even those who work for others hope to dwell comfortably in their own homes. If wealth has already been attained, what need is there to mention obtaining happiness? Thereafter, the Bodhisattva became accustomed to the nectar of bliss in solitude, his heart inclined towards it, and he understood the difference between living at home and living in the forest. Just as someone who is full does not like to talk about food, the pursuit of desires also became undesirable, and so he said: You have spoken these words, and although the fault in speaking them is small, never think of a home like a prison as a place of comfort. Whether rich or poor, living at home is a great sickness. One must protect and suffer afflictions, the other must seek and become exhausted. Whether rich or poor, wherever there is no happiness, the delusion of rejoicing in it is the ripening of the fruit of sin. It is also possible to please the Dharma while living at home, but this is also said because the home is also an enemy of the Dharma, and there are too many things to do, so it is very difficult. Look, if you do the farm work of the house, you cannot avoid lying, and you cannot avoid forcing others to do bad things. Therefore, these people are attached to the comfort of the home and strive to achieve it. If you practice the Dharma, the farm work of the house will be neglected; if you are attached to the home, how can you accomplish the Dharma? The path of Dharma is
