Thinking that perhaps it was not allowed. Searching with my heart in all the forests of asceticism, the two children were nowhere to be seen, my eyes filled with tears, and I said again: The two children are not coming, and you are not saying anything to me. Not speaking when displeased, alas, haven't I been killed? Saying this, my heart burned by the fire of sorrow, I fell like a tender branch being cut from its root. As soon as she fell, the Bodhisattva picked her up and placed her on a grass mat, poured cold water on her to revive her, and to let her catch her breath, said: With a heart of loving-kindness, I could not bear it, and fearing that there was no steadfastness, therefore, mother, I did not quickly tell you of the suffering. The suffering of old age and poverty has befallen me, a Brahmin. I gave him the two children. Do not grieve, be joyful, do not think of the children, look at me. Do not pierce the heart, which is pained by longing for the children, as if with a weapon. If she can be revived, how can I not give even my life? Therefore, rejoice in my giving with a good heart. Hearing these words, the mother, fearing the loss of her children, felt compassion, and hearing the news that the two children were alive, her sorrow lessened. To dispel the sorrow of the family, she wiped away her tears, looked in amazement, and said to the family: Even if I offer much, what else is needed, it is truly amazing. Like this, in your heart, not even a moment of smiling could be found, the minds of the gods must also be, dominated by amazement. The sound of the combination of words of your fame, like the sound of striking the great drum of the gods, with the echo of rocks, in all directions, with clear words, fills the sky. The earth, possessing the breasts of mountains, shook violently as if desire had arisen. Golden flowers also fell in the sky, like the light of lightning illuminating the sky. Therefore, do not be unhappy, but be pleased by giving. Like drinking water to the world, be a benefactor in the future as well. Then, the lord of the gods, Indra, because the earth shook, and Mount Meru, the king of mountains, also shook, wondered what was happening, and the guardians of the world, astonished, widened their eyes, searching from them for all the causes of the shaking.

Recognizing this as generosity, his heart was filled with joy. When that night turned to dawn, Indra transformed himself into the form of a Brahmin and pretended to beg, coming before Satta (Thams-cad sgrol). The Bodhisattva, showing respect to the one who had suddenly appeared, asked what he desired, and the Brahmin begged for his wife. Just as the water of a great river is inexhaustible, so too is the Dharma of generosity for the noble ones. Therefore, I beg you, god-like one, for the noble mother; you ought to grant this consort to me. The Bodhisattva, without any displeasure in his heart, agreed and gave her away. Then, with his left hand he held the perfume, and with his right hand he held the vessel filled with water, pouring the water onto the tip of the Brahmin's right hand. The mind of the desire-god was consumed by the fire of sorrow. Knowing his altruistic nature, his mind did not waver, nor was it the wrong time, but he was overwhelmed by the burden of unprecedented suffering, gazing intently as if painted in a picture. Indra, the lord of the gods, seeing this, was filled with wonder in his heart, and praising the great Bodhisattva, he said: The two dharmas of virtue and vice, alas, how great is the difference! Those who have not tamed themselves, no one can trust. Because they have not abandoned desire, for a woman who is exceedingly beautiful, to give her away without attachment in this way, who could accomplish this great deed? The words of praise for your qualities, the fame that spreads in all directions, like the light of the sun suppressing other lights, has suppressed the glory and fame of others. Your conduct transcends humanity. To this, Yakshas, Gandharvas, and the thirty-three gods, including Indra, will rejoice. Indra spoke these words, then revealed his radiant body, saying: I am Indra. Then he said to the Bodhisattva: It is not fitting to let the moon go and let the moonlight go elsewhere. This consort of yours, Madri, I offer her to you yourself. The steadfast ones give when begged. To whom should one give a lioness cub? Even if given, what could one do with it? It is only fitting for the lion himself. To the high and the low, the royal offspring
